What to do in regards to contacting coaches, when resume is small

Basically right now, my issue is that I've been going through tons of swing work and my short game has suffered, so I have a lot of scores that are high because of either awkward moment in swing or terrible short game state. But at the same time I have a decent amount of tournament scores in the 73-78 range.

 

Would it be better to write up a little letter about the state of my game, how I'm at a point where scores will drop really quickly when I get remaining things put in place, show the scores I do have and tell them I'll keep them updated on my tournaments over the summer (living in central FL I'll be having 2-3 tournament rounds most weeks this summer)? Or should I wait until I actually have a resume that looks decent?

 

To show what I'm talking about, my tournament rounds this year:

78, 81, 83, 73, 89*, 82, 78, 73, 94*, 78, 81, 81, 85, 78, 79, 86*

All but four rounds, including the two 73's, has had two main problems:

- I hit a few shots a round that are flat out *perfect*, but I'm aimed for a shaped shot and I end up in trouble. Actually, the 89 was hitting the ball very well, but it was on a course where I did this 6 times and every one ended up OB.

- Especially in the latest half, I've made at least 3 doubles a round taking 4 strokes to get down from inside of 80 yards. And most of them have been 4-6.

 

The thing is, these are the main issues, and drop the majority of my strokes over par. Just this weekend I reached a point where I am happy with my mechanics enough to leave them alone, and now can actually put in the time hammering my short game. Just this week so far I've felt a great improvement back toward where my short game used to be. It shouldn't be more than a couple of weeks before I get rid of the small plagues and am consistently in the 140's but that still leaves me with months until I have a resume that isn't embarrassing to send.

 

I carry a 4.14 GPA and straight A's my senior year will give me a 4.66 with my course selection, so I'm thinking it's possible I can just take care of myself with academics, go to a school whose program I know I'm good enough for at that time, and walk on. But, I'd like to do as much as I can to get coaches actually wanting me, if I even can at this point.

With this resume, it should be easy to get into college . Since you will be practicing a lot, with the help of a coach that takes out the high scores. They also wanna know they can count on you to make the grade. So that 4.14 helps you out A LOT .

Out of high school I was shooting scores similar to yours, sent them to the coach at my D1 school hoping for the club washer position and never got a response. I would send the scores out, but shoot for D2 and D3 schools. You're better than plenty of players that play in some D2 schools in my area. I never played college golf because I chose academics over golf, but at times I wish I had went to a D2 or D3 school and got some playing time.

Oh, and hold the info about working on your swing and any excuses you have for certain rounds. Just send the scores, and inquire if you can demostrate what you have to offer. With those scores I think the right coaches will think seeing your game would be worthy of their time.

How about this, I think it would be better worth your time to put together a short video (less than 3 minutes) about yourself, your swing, focusing on several facets of your game (different Cam views etc). College Coaches can get a sence of your personality, work ethic, and future (both academically and athleticlly).

In my opinion, a Resume is absolutely necessary, but a video gives you that edge. The better your video, the better chance you will get of someone watching it in full. Upload it to Youtube, share the links with anyone and everyone.

Thats going to get you more immediate exposure! As Ive mentioned in a few other posts in this college forum, sometimes college coaches wont want to look at a resume bc they have 100+ on their desk of kids that would sell their liver to play.
