Anyone know about home security video cameras?

I'm looking to get a couple video security cameras for the exterior of my house. But I don't know what I'm looking for. I obviously want some quality cameras that are as high definition as possible, bullet cameras outdoors, maybe two domes indoors. The kit I'm looking at, these cameras are 700 lines. This seems pretty good to me. Is there much better?

Also how much storage space does 1 TB on the DVR hold? I know a TB is large in terms of personal computer use. But Don't know about video. Is that a couple hours storage, couple days, a week? I would like a rough estimate so I can get an idea of what I want.

 

Anyone have any opinions on these or others I might want to look at?

The higher the resolution, the more storage space is needed. Standard TV (non-HD) is 480i (480 lines interlaced). HD is 720p, 1080i, or 1080p. HD requires a lot more storage space. I don't know if theirs is true HD.

That system looks pretty good. You'd want your computer to be able to access their storage device. This would be done over a home network router. They claim to have remote access which would be a desireable feature. You should ask whether the cameras are active all the time or have motion detectors, that could reduce on storage requirements.

Remember, you have to get power to the cameras and the signal cables to the storage device (maybe they double up?). That could require a lot of work. The installation expense could be significant.

I suggest calling them and talking to tech support. Have your list of questions ready.
