Holiday wine/scotch gift suggestions

I would really appreciate some advice for a gift for my landlords.

 

These people are two of the nicest people on the planet. I've never met them face to face but I've lived in their condo for 2.5 years now and they have been wonderful to me the entire time. This summer they sent me a gift certificate for a free round at Cog Hill (I live in Chicago) as a nice gift for getting a new job.

 

I would like to send them a package with a bottle of scotch and a few bottles of wine. Problem is I'm really not sure what to get. I don't know their preferences so I was thinking 2 bottles of nice red, a bottle of white and a nice scotch (Balvenie or something else in the $50-$80 range).

 

Any and all suggestions are welcome!

If you don't know their preferences, it might be better to get a gift card to a local liquor store...

Whisky is particular to the individual... are you even sure they drink scotch? or drink?
