In particular from Melbourne. I'm visiting and was wondering whether it is normal practice for golf shops tp gove discounts on the price of clubs and if so, how much discount.

From my experience golf shops really try give you as little discount as possible in Sydney anyway. I usually try to hit the club I am interested in at the shop and see whats the best price they can do and then compare that to what price you can get off Ebay. As much as I would love to support golf stores here I just cant justify paying $600 for a driver that I can get delivered to my door for half the price.

For instance I want to get a set of Bridgestone GC Mid irons. In Sydney the best price I can get is around 1000 - 1100. Off ebay I can get them for around USD 450 - 500 delivered. For the price difference i can either get another club or get some lessons.

If this is wrong please let me know a good golf store in sydney and I would be more then happy to support our local industry. :(

I did however get an awesome discount on my bridgestone cart bag, they wanted 239 and i talked them down to 175 :russian_roulette: But I cant seem to get much of a discount on actual clubs.

Bunka (and LionGolfer),

Can I recommend that you contact David Fearns at Bondi Golf Centre. I am in Melbourne and contacted him through his ebay store, as he had a set of Bridgestone J33 CBs for sale. I emailed him as he advertised that he could provide custom orders. I was after the J33s but with DG SL shafts rather than the standard DG's.

He checked with Bridgestone and got back to me - I was able to order the shafts I wanted, have the lie adjusted, chose my grips and grip thickness (all done by Bridgestone). In the end the price for 4 -PW was less than $900, which I think is exceptional for the level of service he provided. They were couriered overnight and in the end the whole process took around 2 weeks - all he asked for was a 25% deposit because it was a custom order.

it is hard not to buy from the states with the aussie dollar better against the usd.

but i always try to support the local market.

if your like me and in a particular golf store enough you get to know all the employees first hand and can usually get some good deals.

if you can though, i think supporting the local business is the way to go.

If you shop at Drummond or Golf Mart you WILL pay inflated prices, especially at Golf Mart. $100 for a dozen Nike Platinums? $250 for Rossa CBGs? $700 for a Ping Rapture? I'll stick to eBay and my local pro thanks.

I never buy clubs from stores in Sydney....way overpriced compared to what you can get from the States on ebay. The only exception is with clothing or some accessories when there is a big sale.

When you guys buy them from the US. Have you paid any extra costs other than delivery etc like taxes because your importing them?

It depends what stores you buy from. Up here in Brisbane Drummond Golf don't really go below retail, but places like Golf World and especially Golf Works will go below. I chopped $100 off my new bag at Golf Works and will probably buy my new irons from them as well if they have the range. Plus my dad doesn't really like me buying stuff of the Bay because there isn't a warranty, but oh well.
