They say Scotty Cameron is copy cat? That putter could not look more similar to the Newport 2.

I don't see where anyone claims that Scotty Cameron is a copy cat...but I doubt that they modeled this putter after the Newport 2.

I guess technically speaking, almost everyone is a copy cat because all of the putters that have this shape is copying Karsten Solheim's original designs.

Oh, and to answer the original poster's question: from what I have read about these putters from anyone that's owned one...they are second to none. It was a tough choice between a Gold's Factory, a custom Slighter, a TP Mills or the Copper Byron when I had a choice of putter to purchase recently with $500 to spend.

For the record, I think Scotty Cameron makes amazing putters. Everyone has copied Karsten Solheim's designs so I'm not calling out Scotty -- I just wanted to point out the fact that the putter above could not possibly look more like a Newport 2.

Just by looking at pictures from Scotty's site, the first thing I notice is that the shoulders (I believe that's what it's called?) look different on the Gold's compared to the Newport 2. The differences are subtle, but definitely there. But let's not turn this into a Scotty Cameron vs. the world thread, let's talk Gold's Factory instead :shok:

The no. 2 is a very sweet looking putter, Sasaya-san knows how to make a flatstick, that's for sure!

Legit......One of the best putters out there.....handmade pureness from Japan!!!!

DG

With all due respect... that doesn't look hand made to me...

I agree. Looks CNC-milled. All of the stamps shown above appear to be engraved.

Hard to know exactly what exactly they mean "handmade". Maybe hand finished off the CNC machine?

#1...if you can scrap together a little do', go to tourspec and get one...i think you can get it cheaper than this guy is selling it...and you can customize it (alot more $$$)

a guy named akira had two for sale 6 months ago for just over $200...i got one of them...

this is THE best putter out there for the money...i say for the money cause i have never putted with a $2000 cami...

it is a rifle...point and shoot...if you put a good stroke on the ball, its going where you aimed it...amazing speed control on everything but really really really long putts (and thats probably just cause i suck)

oh...and best headcovers EVAR!!!

Sasaya-san makes some beauties... and like the description above, no two are alike, he is a master in Japan and custom putter maker as well as master wedge grinder... he's been making a lot of putters for TSG customers, I think choeppner may have picked one up as well. Very highly regarded in Japan for craftmanship and quality putters.

Are those Iomic grips? Some of the designs look decent... would be interested to see how they putt.

Yes Iomics made for Gold's Factory. Awesome roll and feel and very balanced putters.

idrive over at TSG and here at WRX was a cameron user like many, but has since switched to Gold's... he had some feedback in this thread:

http://www.tourspecgolf.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=24160

and here:

http://www.tourspecgolf.com/forum/index.ph...c=24567&hl=

I think MrBlack had made a post (besides the one above) somewhere about his Gold's too.

yeah...its like a nice crisp click like a cami, but soft...NEVER mushy, like the Gauge tended to be...

grip if PERFECT...#2 woudl be ping blackout....

anything inside of 20 ft. is makeable with this thing...forget out 5 fters....no doubt at all

and i was NEVER like this before i got this putter...but when you stop missing 5 fters, you start to get confident...when you dont three putt a whole round, when you normally 3 or 4 jack them 10 times a round, you get confident

like i said...the only thing that i find hard is really really long putts..like 50 fters...because its soft, its really hard to gauge the swing...and you have to hit hte ball pretty hard to not leave it short...but again...thats most likely just me

oh...a few rounds ago, i hit a putt from about 15 ft. to 2 inches...the guy that was with me (a guy i work with) said, "holy sh&t!!! i have never seen the ball jump off the club face like that"

that is how every center shot is

IMHO - if you need a putter with a 4* open face angle, it's time to spend some time working on your stroke.

Yeah, no kidding. Why would anyone want a putter that doesn't sole square. And 5.5* of loft? Is it for greens that stimp at 4.5?

then its a good thing he makes putters for every persons needs, and the list of customizable things are second to none.

Sorry. I just don't "see" it. I do like the bevel on the back edge of the sole though. Thoughtful.

when you normally 3 or 4 jack them 10 times a round

Yikes. I'm glad you found a new putter to help improve that.

true story

not that i dont three putt, but it has significantly cut down on distance dispersion...an no joke on the 5 fters. either...total continuous

just the other day...front 9, no 3 putts...back nine 3 3 putts, and one of those was from 50 ft....rolled it right off the green :D

unfortunatly, when i am not 3 putting, i like to top one iron shot a hole, so no improvement in the scores...yet

OK, my mistake. I thought 4* open and 5.5* of loft was "standard" on these putters.

As for customization being second to none, I doubt it. With the likes of Byron, Mills, Gianni, and Machine putters offering pretty much anything the customer wants, you may want to rethink that statement.

this coming from a guy that putts with a del mar 3.5...even i can make a putter than isnt symmetrical :D

:)

Okay, now you crossed the line. The Del Mar 3.5 is a great design, admittedly patterned after the Wilson TPA XVIII, but a classic design nevertheless.

Just because a putter is asymetrical does not mean it is easy to design or to make in a shape that fits the eye. (I think it's actually much harder). Witness this stunning handmade from Byron:

If you can make a putter, any putter, then stop the smack talk and step up and show your stuff.

not to be rude (like the second part of your statement), but you have no idea what sasaya san can do. he can pretty much do everything and anything the customer wants as well, but you will pay alot more than most. so i will stick to my statement that he is second to none. sorry if this offends you in any way, but i am entitled to my own opinion. some may agree and others wont, but thats the nature of almost anything.

Gold's factory putters can be customized to fit every single persons needs.

Lie angle, loft, design, material used, finish etc.

I think these are great putters - and a long with a Byron Copper putter on top of my current putter wish list :D

I also do believe that Gold's factory is what still remains of the famous Japanese brand called G-Field (Gauge Design) which unfortunately went bankrupt a couple of months ago.
