Legendary Run GC - Arthur Hills designed...pics

...the greens certainy were NOT "legendary"....
Legendary Run GC is an Arthur Hills' designed course East of Cincinnati. I played here for the first time in well over 2 years. I used to like this course but the last time it was a 6 hour round, YES, 6 hours! Today it was 4.5 hours, much, much better. I think they realize their challenges with people keeping pace and are actually asking players to speed up their play. They even have a local rule declaring all woods and native grass areas lateral hazards in order to speed up the pace. This course "used to have' excellent conditions. Today I was really surprised at the overall POOR conditon of the greens and the course in general. Not terrible, but you could tell they have "let it go" a little bit, especially the greens. That was probably my last round here. The front nine is walkable, the back 9 is cart only, they will not allowing walking on the back nine. This course is "cart golf" for the most part and is a challenging course. Back tees play to around 6950 with a slope rating of 129. The course offers many risk-reward holes that if successful you'll score well. Numbers 11, 12 and 13 are pretty tough eventough they are not rated as such on the card. Finally, the course has a really nice par 3 19th hole over water to settle up 18th hole ties and bets. I would recommend spending $10 dollars more and playing nearby Elk's Run GC (Greg Norman designed) instead. Here are a few pics....

I DID THEM A "FAVOR" and did not take pictures CLOSE UP of the greens, I almost did though. Other than the greens, it was in OK condition. Part of the problem was I played the Greg Norman course the day before and it was PERFECCCT!

We have had more rain this summer than last year, and besides they can water it MORE assuming they can afford to.

I have golfed at Legendary Run a number of times, including several times this year. Sadly the course is getting in worse shape. They really seem to struggle with upkeep there, and for the price of the greens fees they have put themself into some pretty steep competition (Blue Ash GC, Elk's Run, Stonelick, Beckett Ridge). I last golfed at legendary about a month ago, and I wasn't in nearly as bad a condition as you described. I think that for whatever reason they are really struggling to keep the course in good shape during this drought. When the course is in good condition however, it is a great place to play. BTW, Blue Ash Golf Course was in very good condition last week. Really was a joy to play there. They had kids out with hoses on pretty much every green on that course. They really are serious about keeping it in good shape!

Thanks for all the reviews The Bend. I'm always interested in hearing about local courses. Have you played any of the courses out by the Casino's in Lawrenceburg?? I have heard that there is some pretty good Links-style golf out there.
