The Pool/Billiards thread

What's up guys-

Not sure sure if this a re-post, but here goes.

My buddies and I have gotten into pool lately. We'll either play eight ball or cut throat, if there's three or four of us. Anyways, I thought I'd open a thread for you all to share stories about playing pool, crazy games or bets you've won or lost, and the like.

On a side note, I find the distance control and accuracy needed to be a solid pool player may help your distance control and accuracy putting. Anybody else find this to be true?

You know, I got a hunch, fat man. I got a hunch it's me from here on in. One ball, corner pocket. I mean, that ever happen to you? You know, all of a sudden you feel like you can't miss? 'Cause I dreamed about this game, fat man. I dreamed about this game every night on the road. Five ball. You know, this is my table, man. I own it

I do. Games like Bocce, croquet, crokinole, darts, ping-pong - all seem to indirectly help my putting when I am playing them a bunch.

Maybe this game is just for bangers.
But the thing is…even if it is just for bangers, everybody’s doing it.
If everybody’s doing it…there’s a lot of guys doing it.
A lot of guys doing it, but only one guy can be the best.

Nine-ball is rotation pool, the balls are pocketed in numbered order. The only ball that means anything, that wins it, is the 9. Now, the player can shoot eight trick shots in a row, blow the 9, and lose. On the other hand, the player can get the 9 in on the break, if the balls spread right, and win. Which is to say, that luck plays a part in nine-ball. But for some players, luck itself is an art.

9 ball pool reminds me of that scene in Indiana jones when the Arab guy does all that fancy stuff with the blade and then Indy pulls out a gun and shoots him dead

Love pool. When I was in MN, there was a hustler who was a regular at one of the bars I frequented. Dude was absolutely incredible at the game - regularly pulled off 4- and 5-rail shots. I beat him ONCE because I got to break and ran the table. He immediately pulled out a huge wad of cash and asked if I wanted to play for a 20 :no2::lol:

I am a complete pool fanatic. It amazes me how few golfers actually try to play serious pool.

Bumper pool is fun, but its closer to putting through the windmill or clowns mouth than serious pool. I've seen people play one handed and jump over the bumpers in money games...that was cool to watch. My friend Jesse Allred has some amazing one handed pool videos on youtube.

Azbilliards.com is a real good pool site to check out if you want to learn more about the world of pool.

If you think golf gear is expensive, some cuemakers only make cues that cost 10 grand or more now. Waiting lists of 7 years or more,etc...

Snooker and three cushion billiards are also awesome games to check out. Nine ball is fun, but many serious pool players prefer games like one pocket that have a lot more strategy.

For trick shots, check out any of the "Venom" or "prayingmantis" trick shot videos, especially the later ones...prepare to be blown away.

Oh, for those who get excited about girls in golf, google the images of shanelle loraine or yu ram cha who play pool.

I started playing in fort walton beach fl at starcade billiards. I have played with pros and your everyday joe. I have had a chance to play with handmade cue sticks worth over 28K. I personally us a lacasi pool stick and a Q-tec break stick. I have played much but I sure its like riding a bike. When I was in Korea was the last time I played. I really got into darts which over the year got good enough to compete with some of the pros also. I competed in the A2 flight right below the guys the traveled.

On really good felts/tables to really don't even have to hit the ball and it will send the balls. Practice your english shots. watch where you are hitting the ball and how the "Q Ball" acts after hitting another ball and rail. once you figure that out along with your speed/stroke you should be good to go. Just like golf it takes practice.

took this long for someone to mention one pocket. sad.

snooker is way too darn difficult and frustrating.

If you can find a place with a snooker table... then golf is a great game for 3-5 players.
We used to play 3 ball (1 tie all tie, drop the dollars on the table. If at anytime during your turn at the table the cue ball comes to rest on a dollar or stack of dollars you match that right away then continue), winner takes all dollars in the pocket and on the table. You can imagine the pots getting pretty big.
