Luke Donald - Best PGATour putting - by a fairly large margin

Surprised to see how dominant Luke Donald is in the putting category.

 

The stat is "Putting: Strokes gained".

A bit surprised that Stricker is ranked that "low" over the last 5 years.

I thought I read in an article a while ago that Stricker seems to be a better putter than he actually is because he had shorter lengths of putts to attempt and make. I don't know where I read it.

Yea I realized that this summer.... Great putting, mediocrely awful long game.

When he starts draining putts to close out majors I will take notice. That list demonstrates that it is perhaps easier to putt when you are shooting for a mid field pay check or a top ten finish than when in contention. I can recall a few on that list having less than stellar pitting rounds on the rare times thay have smelled the lead in a major on sunday. Interesting that nobody on that list has won a major in that time period.

Charlie Wi is interesting to see on that list. He was considered a lousy putter early on in his career. Very mechanical and tentative.

Random stat from last year, talking about the ones that really count: Rory was 82nd in putts gained, 98th in 3-putt avoidance, but 1st in birdie putts from 5 to 25 feet.
