aggressive, nasty flu

Runny nose for a day, then hit with symptoms much more powerful then normal. If you get it, your body is in for a real battle; I'm now in day two and exhausted to the point of disorientation.

Yeah me too on Christmas Eve no less, and my daughter the day before.

I tried to remind my stomach that it was empty and it could stop now, but it did not listen...

I heard the really bad stomach cramps/vomit/diarreha are something called Norovirus. Short lived but nasty for sure.

I just so happen to have a little bit of Popcorn Sutton's finest that I will partake of when I feel such an illness coming on. I don't know if it cures the flu or not but if it doesn't it, it makes me forget that I have it. :)

I work for a large healthcare organization that required everyone to get the flu shot (even folks like me who won't ever interact with a patient or share air with them). People complained.. then the outbreaks started. Everyone shut up.

*Edit - Don't want to act like the flu shot necessarily works all the time (they are obviously guessing on the strain) but it was funny how the outbreak quickly changed people's minds.

If what I've had is the flu, I don't wish it on anybody. Ugh. Was at the doc last Thursday about it-- 8 days later still fighting it. Brutal Cough, dizziness, some fever/chills but not really high fever, sore throat, overall wishing I could go to sleep and wake up next month. I didn't have a single sick day in 2012, and now I've either missed completely or bailed out early on about 5 days of work...

5-10% of the US typically get the flu each year (big years can see up to 20%). That group of people is made up mostly of those most prone to the flu; children and the elderly. Thus a very small % of the population make up the majority of flu cases each year.

You not getting the flu for 10 years in a row assuming you fall between the ages of 25-65 is probably less than 50%. Your statement is the norm, it isn't special. The concern is not typically healthy adults, its about protecting those who are more likely to get the flu. That is the point of mass immunization (a la Polio). But you know, why worry about the elderly and the young right? Your health is the most important.

I have pent up rage on flu immunization. I apologize. No, it doesn't cause autism. The study was a hoax and all the data was shown to be made up.

The cancer reference is of course the extreme. If there existed an immunization shot for cancer that caused side effects to less than 5% of the population and was 50% effective would you get it? Nope, I haven't had cancer for 10 years running now!

Different strokes different folks..

Growing up in a family of medical professionals I was raised to not take aspirins/pain pills, vaccines, etc and let my body build its own immune system and strengthen itself naturally.

I dont think I will ever be one to have much faith/care to take vaccines, but who knows only time will tell. When I am one of those frail old farts maybe I will have a different outlook.

Its cool. I also hate the way the medicine, pills, shots, etc are pushed on people. I have only recently come around on vaccinations. I don't have any issue with people saying "the flu shot just isn't for me". We won't get started on people who beg for antibiotics for a cold.

I get the flu shortly after getting flu shots. My Dr, after 4 years in a row of data, said "don't get flu shots anymore."

That was 15 years ago.

Haven't gotten the flu since.

indeed, there are side effects for some people. I'm really not saying everyone should get the flu shot. I swear. Pinky promise even. I apologize for jacking this thread, I am an @$$hat fo sho. I sincerely hope that the OP feels better soon. Stay hydrated, drink some pedialite, water downed gatorade etc.

I gotta go pop some tags at the thrift shop.

I think it's great....gives immune systems more practice.

George Carlin had a great bit on that.

That said, the norovirus has hit my house twice this year. Not fun....you feel like you need a cork to....never mind.

The flu shot has changed a lot since then, it's no longer in an egg suspension not is it an active virus like it used to be. My wife is a pharmacist, please get a flu shot. Btw, it can take a few weeks for the shot to become active so there's the possibility that its not the shot that made you sick, but rather you came in contact with the virus before immunity was built up.

There's so much negative or misinformation about the flu vaccine, getting the shot is really no big deal.
