For all the big hitters out there, What drivers, shafts and lofts

The trends are going to be low spin heads and low launch/spin shafts.

Anser 8.5(digitally lofted at 9) open setting. Speeder 7.2X tipped 3/4".

No need to post statistics. Just faster and longer.

I'm on the short end of a long hitter, I guess...

SS is between 110 and 115, playing a Cobra S3 with a AXE 6+ Stiff

I've had control issues, and want to switch to something a little shorter this season.

I'm probably just going to get fit for a Wishon.

I need to find a stiff shaft, but one thats lighter than what I have now. It seems like the weight slows my swing down and gets me out of snyc.

When I was swinging driver at my best, I was using a TEE XCG 9* with a Tour Proto Axiv Green 70 S at 45". I have never carried a drive 300, but I carried a good number 270-280 with a low flat trajectory and a good amount of chase too. I have always had good ball speeds with this model head and it's not especially low spin at all.

128 on TRACKMAN, been playing a 7.5 Cobra AMP with Diamana 90xx prototype and an Anser 8.5 with 80xx Ahina. I hit it long enough, just care about fairways and the Anser is slightly better than the AMP in that category.

Hound I'm surprised your not cracking OEM heads

Only OEM head I have had trouble with was the G20. The Anser has held up nicely as well as the Cobra. It is solid.

I fit a customer not too long ago that has 195mph ball speed... Fastest I have ever seen first hand on our Trackman at my work.

He ended up with a Fujikura Motore Speeder Tour Spec 7.2 extra stiff tipped an inch, he plays Nike equipment so it is in a LTD 9.5 head.

Loves the new setup, much better control and gained a little distance.

I'm currently experimenting...mind you it's expensive as hell to do this lol but here we go...

I've been clocked by Bridgestone when they did their ball fitting with 120-124 SS...honestly on average I'm probably closer to 115...

TM R9 Tour 8.5 that's probably closer to 7.75...I have two shafts I throw in this head....

Graphite Design P9003x-has been claimed that this is the "holy grail" of low launch/spin....Shaft feels and performs great...tears thru the wind and dispersion is tight....this shaft is stiffer than hell so you better bring the heat! Got a hell of a deal on this...I believe it's like a $400 shaft! WTF?!

Aldila Voodoo XVS7....amazing shaft for the money! ...definitely a mid launch shaft...not too sure about how low of spin.

TM Tour issue long hosel Superfast TP 8.5 that's super open and yeah lol a.k.a. Black Mamba.
this has a Aldila RIP Alpha 2.0 torque and it's 46" long.
When I connect on this beast the ball is roasted! It's honestly too long of length to be too consistent.
The head is super hot and has been C.O.R. tested

My next project is a higher lofted 9.5 Adams Fast 12 LS with a Aldila Phenom 2.2 X Tour issue shaft.
Anyone who has tried this combo feel free to chime in....according to others the Phenom is mid launch with low/mid spin...we'll see...

I sell golf clubs all day in one of the biggest retailers around and have hit all the new stuff this year.....these stock shafts are mostly garbage if you have a SS over 110...

I would probably be a even bigger ho if I could try all these new clubheads with premium shafts!

My advise is to look for an affordable shaft that has the launch characteristics, weight, and other specs that would benefit your swing and then buy a Ping Anser or 913 D3 or whatever sets up nice to you....

Golf is such a comfort/confidence sport and every driver feels different to other people.

Good luck!

Not the biggest of hitter but I can move the ball a little. The last time I was fitted I had a SS of 110-112. I use a 9.5 Tour Fast 12LS and was fitted to a DI6x tipped 1 inch.

With in the next week I will have a new Tour Adams Super LS 9.5 driver head with the DI6x in it. I can't wait.

I don't use a standard driver anymore, but for years used a steel- shafted Callaway Steelhead with 1998 Memphis 10. I think it was only 43" (maybe 43.5"), and with 9* of loft. I consistently stayed just under 300yds with it, many drives considerably longer but with roll, etc. My longest drive confirmed during a tournament was 335yds. I never really cared that much and my long iron game suffered because I was always hitting driver then short or mid-irons. So I stuck it in the closet played over-standard-length one or two irons or hybrids to maintain consistency throughout the bag. So I preferred the shorter driver to gain control, and I found it with the old Steelheads.

I hope your kidding. Your long iron game suffered because you were hitting short irons into greens so you decided to hit it shorter so that your long iron game could improve?? You know its generally easier to hit it close to the pin using the clubs with the higher numbers right?? :WTF:

My max driver SS is 116, I play ping drivers and have had the following set ups. I20 8.5* TFC x stiff, anser 8* ahina diamana, and 9.5* g20 TFC stiff.

I've hit all of my longest driver with my I20, my best drive is around 315.
[/quote]

Heres my list:

Cally FT9 Tour 9.5 Stiff (stock shaft?) @ 43" (straightest driver Ive owned. Laser straight). Always in the 290s, broke the skid plate.

Nike Dymo 8.5 Str8 Fit (Nike brand 79 series Avixcore x stiff). Longest 320 (several times) at sea level. Almost as straight as the FT9. (still have it and am thinking about tipping it as I think its close to 46" long, tipping it for fun that is. Dont care if it ruins the ball flight as I never use it.)

Ping G20 TFC X-Stiff at 44". Longest drive 360 (Denver). Dented the face near the toe before I cut it to 44".

Which leads me to my newest.....

Ping Anser Regular Flex Blur at 10.5 degrees for $225 used. Havent hit it other than at golfsmith. Just ordered a Avix Green Tour 76 gram X Stiff w/billy bobs tip.

It was pretty late when I typed that, so I could have worded it better. In essence, I pulled the driver from the bag so that I was only playing long irons, driving irons, or hybrids and got away from teeing a ball up. I lost distance off the tee, but not so much that it killed my game. In fact, my game improved. So many guys shake in their shoes about the thought of a 200yd 5i approach yet I love it, especially after teeing off with a 2i. I was enjoying finding my own game and advancing the ball the way I liked. Of course, I would prefer a shorter iron approach, but if I have to pull a four-iron, I don't have a meltdown. It's what I practice when the guy next to me hits 90% of hit bucket with his driver then can't find a fairway during his round.

But to stay on topic, I just wanted to share that I had found success using a shorter-than-most steel-shafted, compact steel-headed driver.

I'm not gonna participate in the passive brag session :cheesy:

BUT, keep in mind that just like all other speed ranges, higher speed players need fittings too. I, for example, have a negative angle of attack. More loft is my friend. The guys who come in to the ball differently will need different shafts and lofts.
