There's still a bit of athleticism necessary to be successful at a golf swing. The putting stroke is probably the only thing in golf you can truly be "as good as you want to be" at due to it's simplicity.

I want to sink 95% of 30's. Do you really that is just a matter of getting in enough practice or is there a physical limit in the accuracy you can hit the ball, how well the ball will roll, and how well you can aim. I am going with the later. I might be able to get closer to a pro's short game than long game but lets not get carried away.

I am guessing it is about as hard (i.e. almost impossible) for Luke Donald to drop a stroke in the stroke game as it is in the long one. For the amateur who never practices putting or short game, there are lots of short game strokes out there. After you practice it dilligently for a year or so, not so much.

Someone posted a link to golfshot.com the other day in another thread. Looks pretty solid, they have a lot of neat charts you can use to track your stats. Gonna pick it up soon.

If you get/have golfshot, consider golfplan as well. It can compare your golfshot stats to others of a similar handicap to show you how you stack up. It also will recommend a practice plan for you to improve on your weak areas.

A teacher onctold me that good players stress what a difference the short game makes because they already have such a good full swing. If you're hitting 12-14 GIR then how you play the others determines whether you shoot 70 or 76, ergo short game is important.
If youre hitting only 6 or so GIR, how much difference can your short game make? Getting up and down a few times and shooting 95 instead of 100 isn't the answer, is it?
Full shot swing consistency is the answer if you want to improve your score, IMHO. As others have pointed out, if you can't get it in play or keep it in bounds, having a good short game won't do much good.
