Adams Insight BTY

Recommended Posts

By combining the best materials and construction methods with a tour-proven shape allowed our engineers to achieve their primary goal - to produce one of the hottest and most forgiving fairway woods available.

* The compact, tour-inspired shape is tailored for the better player.

* A titanium face and crown is power brazed to a stainless steel body, which is not only an industry first but makes BTY one of the hottest fairway woods on the market.

* To customize swing weight, an adjustable weight port is positioned in the sole.

* The tip stiff ProLaunch Red shaft creates the ultimate combination of power and a penetrating ball flight.

Took my new BTY 14.5* w/ Grafalloy PL Red SX @42.5" to the range this morning. My previous gamer was a Tm 200 tour railtop 15* w/ VT80D X.

The clubhead is all black from address, and appears to be very small in size. I like how the head sits a shade open, very good-looking club.

The feel at impact is very solid, doesn't really feel like a titanium wood, more like steel. After getting used to the lighter weight, I got some really good results with this club. If you just let the club do the work (i.e. don't try to overpower it), the ball comes off like a rocket to a mid trajectory with litte spin. Easy to turn over or fade, and I was even able to hit some real bullets just by altering ball postion.

Off the deck, this club is very easy to elevate from a variety of lies. The sole interacts with the ground very well, as I like to hit down on my fairway wood shots. For such a small head size, this club is pretty forgiving. It's also easier to square and deliver consistantly to the ball, which increased the frequency of my center-hit shots.

Bottom line, I really like this 3 wood, and once I add a little weight to the shaft for a heavier feel, I'm gonna have my new gamer! BTW, Adams is offering a buy driver/get fairway wood free promo through the month of july, so that's a pretty good deal. The BTY driver is on its way, and I'm excited to hit that because it looks NICE!

UPDATE 7/27/07: Reshafted this baby with a Comp NT 85, and the results are much better. I don't know if mine was badly swingweighted, but it felt like C-8 or something. Also, it appears as if the face is starting to crack, or maybe it's just the paint. I kept hitting it and it was flying the same distance as before, so I'm not going to worry about it unless it like caves or something.

Good review and I agree 100%. Demo'ed this 3-wood for 3 or 4 rounds a couple of weeks back, and when you hit it solid it feels great and goes a mile. But the stock shaft is 75g and the swingweight feels light - for me when I got over-aggressive it would flip over left in a hurry. Not sure if a heavier sole weight would make a difference there, or if it just needs an 85 or 95g shaft. But all in all I'd say it's a very good fairway and worth a try to anyone in the market.

First of all, if you think that Adams just makes clubs for seniors, look again. These fairway woods are one more example of how good Adams clubs have gotten over the past couple of years. Two words come to mind in describing the 14.5 degree model: long and control.

The compact head allows you to kill the ball from all sorts of lies. However, the face is tall enough for the tee box. The PL Red shaft is excellent, producing a high penetrating ball flight. While this shaft is not working for me in the driver, it is perfect in the fairway wood model.

All-in-all a perfect 3-wood.

Does anyone know how these compare to the RPM LP's or Sonartecs? I liked the LP's but cant find a non-draw biased one at a resonable price so I'm thinking about going with the BTY. My natural ball flight is a soft draw but I'm afraid the RPM draw would overcook it. Besides I'm old school, I want my swing to shape the shots not my equipment.
Anyone using the 12.5º fairway wood?
Yes, I ordered the BTY 14.5* and the BUL 15* both at the same time when they were $35/each from Rock Bottom a couple of weeks ago. What arrived was a BTY 12.5* and a BUL 15* but I thought for $35 what the heck.

The BTY is very solid and long off the tee with that loft. The size of the club head makes it look like a hybrid off the deck but it requires a pretty pure swing to make it work off the deck. The BUL is with the stock stiff shaft and is a little flexible but stupid easy to hit. The BUL is not as crisp as the BTY and not as long, this could be due to the loft difference and/or shaft difference but is easy to hit off the deck. Solution: Carry them both and use appropriately.

I recently got the 12.5 with a Grafalloy blue tour 90 x off evay for $45. I find it to be a very solid head and great feel. With this shaft it is hard to go left and easy to hit off the deck. Great trajectory and sound so I think it was a good $45 well spent. Great compact open faced 3 wood. One of the best Ive hit.

Lamest question of the week...

What does the BTY stand for? If anything?

I feel stupid asking but I've got one of these, love it, and I'm curious.

BTY = Beauty.
