Actually, Nick's contract is w/ dimension data, and the only formal association on equipment front that requires him to play anything per contract is the Bridgestone ball contract. The sonartec association is due to Nick having a share of company per his agreement, and he has worked to help design some of their woods and is consulting on a new driver now. Many players on tour such as Darren Clarke and Tod Hamilton have bag/driver contracts only, will check out some info and get back w/ you soon as I can find out more.

hi all:since the pga tour season ends this week i would like to know whitch tour pro's will be equipment free agents going into the 2005 offseason?other than sonartec fwds is nick price's equipment contract open ended meaning he can use any clubs he wants?thanks  :pimp:

Chad Campbell is still out there... I don't think he had an equipment contract all year. Furyk looks like he'll move to Srixon too.

That's right about Campbell. What I find mysterious is that at the beginning of the season, he said he wanted to take his time to find a sponsor, preferring to play with clubs which fit him (e.g., Ping I3+ irons). After an entire season, I would have thought that he could have firmed up something by now. It's not that he doesn't have the opportunity; I recall reading one of the equipment reps being quoted as saying something like, Chad has the image we're looking for and we are certainly not the only group looking at him. Seems a waste not to pick up sponsor $ while it's out there to be had. I can appreciate playing what you want to play. However, I would find it hard to believe that at least one of the manufacturers of the clubs sitting in his bag wouldn't pay him to keep playing what he already has in there.

Nike should have him signed soon but you're right... you'd think after a year that he'd figure it out. Cleveland let a good one get away here if you ask me.

He had a Nike bag and irons as of last week. Maybe they have already signed him. Not like a pro to advertise for free.

Chad Campbell is signing with Nike according to pga.com, but for how many clubs- it didn't say.

It's refreshing to me that he chose equipment that "works" for him first rather than chosing a manufacturer/contract then finding equipment within the brand that "works" for him.

Nike marketing should stress that because what it says to me is that Chad Campbell went from his tried and true equipment, looked all year for something better, and the answer was Nike.

I have a feeling since nikes signing all these big names like : Wie Woods Leonard , Cambell (maybee) and K.J. Choi , i think we're gonna see Callaway being bought out soon.

Callaway is not sale, the board of directors wants too much money and no one in their right mind will buy it at the share price they are asking

Most important ... Nike let the players have SIGNIFICANT input into

their club making process unlike other companies who flood the market with product after product.

60058[/snapback]

Chad Campbell has been playing Nike Irons since the Masters in April...He is under contract with Sharpie but will be a Head-to-Toe Athlete on Jan 1st. He did go back to Ping before putting Nike in play. He like All Nike Athletes have tremendous input into the products that they use. He like Notah Begay III and John Houston chose to use Nike Irons because they are the BEST Players Club out there...

Intersting how you find it funny but how come Justin Leonard; KJ Choi; Casey and Campbell have started playing them??? Forged Players clubs are Nike Specialty. How else do you get the best player in the world into their products? Tom Stites is the World's Best Professional club maker there is...If you didn't know Chad Campbell like Notah and John Houston are playing these Irons for Free!!!

NO TEE-UP MONEY LIKE TAYLORMADE OR CALLOWAY!!!

They all play them for the money. I LOVE the statement, "I find equipment that works, then I play that... " Isn't this kind of like an athlete who in a free agency year says "I really want to stay in this town and play here..." only to sign somewhere else? They are all money grubbing whores. My personal opinion of nike is they sign people who might be a good story (Duval why hang on to him, major winner? Leonard did win a major once, maybe he will again, it would make great press? Gore, enough said? Campbell, etc, etc, etc) So much of nike is about their marketing. Any pro good enough to field most likely, multiple offers from manufacturers will get their equipment made they way they want it. Speaking of Nike having Leonard and Duval, maybe we can expect Pavin and Baker Finch in the stable...

first of all, how can you put Justin Leonard on the same page as Duval and Baker Finch? Leonard not only has won over 10 times on tour, he has a players, an open, only once has finished outside of the top 30 on the money list, was the only player before Tiger and Ryan Moore to get their tour cards without going to q-school. I mean he won twice this year, and not at just weak events, good ones. I dont care what you say, Nike is becoming a dominant golf company, some of their products are complete flops, i will agree, but these guys play what works for them. I somewhat know leonard, and he would not just play some s*** clubs. These guys know what they are doin, yeah the moneys good at Nike, but hell it is elsewhere too. Dont hate on leonard unless you can beat him. Can you, highly doubt it. Nuff said.

But he didn't really have a great year; I think he does have the potential to win a tournament every year. It didn't happen for him like in the past so maybe Cleveland wasn't too bad a fit for him.

Must agree with that statement. Nike is slowly becoming a tour powerhouse.

True. Chad did struggle through most of the year, but he was also trying different equipment- not just Nike. We'll just need to see what happens next year (a full year with Nike gear) since 2005 was transitional at best for Chad.
