The real question about driving distance:...

Recommended Posts

Everyone here can say, "Yeah I have hit it 320, or Yeah I hit it 300" but that provides no evidence to your comment. So I ask you 300 yard long drive champions: What is your ball speed and swing speed (thats what really matters)?

I hit it long, basically "300ish" and my swing speed is 125,6,7 and ball speed can get up to the 185,6,7 range depending if I catch it correctly.

Just thought it was a good question because the junior golfers who swing it 115 mph do not hit it 300.

Kinda depends what part of the country you play in. Up north if you have 115 MPH with the optimum launch angle you can hit it 300 YDS. Are you talking about carry distance? or total distance?

I'm 23, a +1.2, and have average ss of 110-115. I average 300+ and have hit countless drives over 350. Im not saying I can carry it over 300, cause I can't. I would say your statement is a little off and a little derogatory. Do you know them? Have you ever played with them? Who are you to say they are lying if they say they can hit it 300? I never understood why some guys get so upset over hearing someone claims to hit the ball 300 yards. Who cares if they can or can't? There are MANY more factors to long drives than swing speeds and ball speeds. You guys get caught up too much on numbers sometimes...

Here's my take on it...

Who cares? All I care about is the number on my scorecard at the end of the day. There isn't a spot for each hole on the scorecard to write down how far you hit it off the tee. I guess it's just an ego thing with some people.

EXACTLY Kyle.

If I played Fred Funk straight up for $1000 and he beats me by 6 strokes, I'm not going to say "but I blew it by you all day long" how about $500...

true those are important factors for hitting it long, but it really depends on where you play and what you are playng with. if you have a shaft and driver combo thats fits you perfectly you can really launch it. i play with my brother who's 17 and he definately doesn't have your swing speed but can really put it out there with the best of them.

thank you for the compliment steve , anyways i really think that this post is off. You say a kid with a 115 swing speed cant hit it 300? its all about the hole and day too. You have wind factors. My drive for example is pretty high, so if i got good wind with me i can have that thing go forever. Also if the hole is soewhat downhill or something people might just get the straight yardage and not factor that in. Swing speed is not everything my friend. if you are swinging so fast and for the fences like that, chances are you are not hitting the ball as pure as some of the 110 swing speeds that are staying right up with you in distance.

No, I am talking level ground and everything. When I was fit by Titleist a few months ago with those numbers I posted earlier, they said my total distance, no wind, level ground, "normal" altitude, was around 295. I just sometimes find it amusing when people throw the term 300 out there like its nothing.

dude i agree, these kids think they are hitting it that far, and feel better about themselves when they do. I know there are some kids who have what it takes to hit it 300, but its a joke to hear everyone say this...LOL

I hit it about 275 on average, yea I have gotten the ball 300, but I am not relying my entire driving distance on the drive that was downhil with the wind.

Amen, someone who agrees with me.

My swing speed I checked it on a speed stick last was 85 but I hadn't golfed for like a month so I am sure I am swinging faster in the middle fo the season.

It is nice to see that the speed stik has turned into a national product. My teacher here in Nebraska developed it with another partner 4-5 years ago. I have had one since. I don't swing it methodically but this has helped a lot in terms of swing speed and total distance. Swing speed/distance is a really big factor in college golf recruiting today.

Keep it sane young guns... I will say 300 is possible with a SS of 115.. I'm a little under that and on rare occasions I'm there...I'll admit my norm is more in the 270-280 range...
