I have never seen a square TP model they have all been closed. And i have never seen a closed tour issue driver. This is enough to make the clubs different. They are not the same, if they were the same the face angles would all be square to open, the TP irons would all be Miura Forged Milled faces. That's the way the TP line should be set up, and with the exception of the wedges that is not the case. It's a bit misleading when Taylormade says that they you are buying the same club as the pros when really this isn't the case. If you look at a company like bridgestone however, their drivers are awsome. I played a tour ignite but when i saw the 460 with a dead square face, it's perfect. Now i could see how there isn't a difference at all between the tour and retail of the 460 driver which i believe is the case. Just my input though.

This is my last post on this. I'm not cranky I just want the record to be straight. If TP face angles are different than tour issue, it means nothing!! I have said it before and I will say it again. Any head (correction) most any head can be found square to .5 degrees open. Is it common, no, but it does happen. don't read into things. Tour players don't care why they hit something good, they just hit it. Having the right specs definitely helps but it doesn't make the club perfect for them. For example If someone has a driver that sets up 1 degree open, loft is 9.8, weighs 205 grams and has a COG at, lets say 20mm up on the face and has a shaft frequency at 280. If any of the variables are off, which is quite common, the club will play differently. Yes tour vans try to get components to be the same but its very hard to get them exact. I mean nuts on exact! Thats why players will get a handful of drivers to try out. Many of the clubs are set up to their exact specs and of those, they will generally pick one or two. There is to much room for error in the building of clubs and the components they are given. Tour clubs are taken because they meet certain specifications. There is no reason why they would grab heads that are closed unless a player requests it. I dont know of any off hand that play closed faces, yet I'm sure there are a few. Many tour players play a cut and want to eliminate the left side, thats why they ask for open faces. How many players do you know who worry about hitting too much of a draw? 80-90% of golfers are high handicappers who hit a slice and would give anything to prevent it. For that reason companies try to error on the closed side. Selling a club to the general public that is exactly the same as most tour players, would be certain death to any OEM.

Croonie15: You said that TM TP drivers were all closed. I know many are slightly closed but there is also many that are square. I think bridgestone is a great company but how many people are using their drivers? Many companies advertise that you can get the same thing so and so is playing. Most of the time its true and sometimes the truth is stretched. I dont agree with it either but thats the advertising world. The people here and on other boards worry to much about comparing retail to tour. If there are certain specs a person is looking for, than find it and try it out. Anything a person can want is on a few different sites but unless your a PGA pro don don't get upset that TM isn't sending you clubs to try out. It doesn't work like that.

Example: I just played friday. I play all retail equipment and some of my stuff is tweaked a bit. I'm playing an R5 driver thats 1 degree open, I love the club but I cant turn it over. I'm looking for a square head as I type. I hit a 365 drive on a 500 yard par 5. My friend plays a stock 580R with a stock TM shaft and blew it by me by 20 yards.

Tour isn't the end all of clubs. FIND WHAT WORKS FOR YOU! IF you need something special ask around here. I'm sure you can find whatever you need.

I am in no way trying to disrespect anyone, I just want people to know that there isn't a difference in heads, just the way their set up. G

Champx2, did you recieve the decals I sent to you? Give me a shout. G

Let me have a crack at answering this question. From my experience on the tour van and my questions of the staff on the tour van I can conclude a few things. first the biggest difference between the tour line and the tp line are tolerances. The tour line is just a tad bit tighter on the tolerances as far as weight, loft and face angle. Second the heads are the same neither one is hotter than the other in fact the guys on the trailer laugh at us for even thinking there is a difference. Third not every driver is perfect, even on the van I held 4 10.5 Tour R5's that all had different static lofts (10.3, 11.5, 9.5, 10) and all have different gram head weights I can't remember the range but my point is even though it was a tour head it they are not perfect. Also even though they were tour 3 of the 4 had closed faces (all four were being built for a TM staffer to try and they all had to put into a special machine to be bent to sqaure.) The finally thing different between the two is the way they put the shaft in the stock tp shafts are not tipped and end up a little weak when put in the club heads were the tour shafts are tipped to were the tour pro wants them. Hope this clears it up a little bit by the way every company I know of seperates clubs and golf balls based on tolerances the tour pros just have to gett the best of the lot.

Under construction....

LOL, who can hit it 365 yards? LOL is that downhill with an 80 MPH wind at your back? You would take 4th place at the Remax Long Drive World Championship.

SS=120+ ground is a bit hard + fairways are tight. That equals 365. I hit a wedge in and eagled the hole as well. Put that in your bong and smoke it! Dont hate the player, Hate the game! :cheesy:

P.S. Think before you type! G

Sorry, but a 365 yard drive is not all that amazing if you have a good swingspeed. I essentially drove 3 par fours in a scramble two weeks ago. While I occassionally compete in long drive events, I played the scramble with a 44 3/4" tour TM driver. I've got several buddies I play with that will occassional jack one 365 as well.
