What's In The Bag... For Now.

Recommended Posts

That last posting about my wedges had a hint of foreshadowing I guess... Thanks to GolfWRX.com and Renegar Golf, I was lucky enough to win a set of four RX12 wedges. The Vokey's are sold! I also added a new RocketBallz 3 wood while my R9 13* shaft was being replaced under warranty, leaving me without a 3 wood. The RBZ is nice and long off the tee but will take some getting used to from the fairway.

The head on my R9 Supertri TP cracked and TaylorMade was gracious enough to send out an R11S TP as a warranty replacement. Thank you!

Decided that this crazy game is hard enough... No use in adding to the difficulty by playing a "player's cavity-back". I picked up a like-new set of PING G15's (4-UW). I 'm getting rid of the Renegar 48 and 52 degree wedges but keeping the 56 and 60. This should be a fun season, it has been years since I've had new irons.

Switched the Renegar wedges out of the bag in favor of PING Eye2 XG's. To me, the feel is better with the steel shafts and my proximity to the hole has improved.

I settled on a PING Redwood D66 once the belly putter started giving me fits.

Finally, I gave up on the TaylorMade Rescue 11 and the trouble it caused. Picked up a PING G15 Hybrid from a fellow WRX'er and, so far, so good. Much easier to hit and it seems like it will be a bit longer, as well.

A ho's gotta ho. I just finished the most massive equipment overhaul ever: 14 clubs, ball and bag. I haven't been playing as much, due to two daughters and just had the desire to hit the reset button on my game. 2018 will be a recommitment to my game and I wanted a fresh start. In all, the new setup only cost $650 for brand new (2 demos) clubs. To say that I am excited would be an understatement.

Switching out the Cobra F7 for a PING G400 Max driver. The putter is a revolving door but I'm going to give the Wilson Milled 8802 an honest try.

Shot a personal best 79 last month (Breaking 80!) so it seemed like a good time to switch out my clubs... Dumb.

Alas, a ho is gonna ho. Got fit for PXG 0211 5-GW in the Mitsubishi MMT 80 stiff shafts and found a local deal that I couldn't refuse 5-PW. That created some gapping issues that my current wedges couldn't fill so I am picking up a Cleveland CBX 52* in graphite to match up better with the 0211's and a new TaylorMade Hi-Toe Bigfoot 58*. The three wedge setup creates the correct gaps, for me, and it keeps thing simpler. Hopefully, the Bigfoot lives up to the hype. Photos ASAP.

It is going to take some getting used to. It is stupid simple on square face shots. However, it isn’t going to be a club you can get cute with. Bunker shots with a square face feels very unusual to me so it will take another round or two. Greenside pitches and chips are easy and predictable. Full shots spin well but not a crazy amount and carry a shade longer than my Wilson PMP. Feel is great. In all, I need more time but initial impression is good.

Nice updates over the years! Also grats on the 79!

Where do you think you picked up strokes? Off the tee, approach, short game, putting, course management, etc?

VOV0LVE13ZP6.jpegNew driver head cover. The C+C+C+C stands for Chris (myself), Carolyn (wife), Claire and Cecilia (our daughters). Hella tight fit on the PING G400 Max... Nt sure what to do about that but I like the optics of it. I'm doing a "mismatch" of bright blues and oranges in my bag this year. I have a few new Muni Kids covers in the bag as well.

I still have a 1990s flip phone that doesn't take pictures. Still works fine.

I'm old and lucky that I can figure out this laptop, although I don't know how to use it without a mouse.

Sorry, but uploading and downloading digital images is way beyond my capabilities.

That being said, I do have a new set of clubs, finally replacing my Titleist PTs and DCI 962s.

And I know how to implant charts from an Excel spreadsheet. I'm a retired accountant.

I played some good (for me) golf but decided to switch out the 0211 irons and Cleveland CBX wedges that I was playing. Had a personal best 77 last season (same course that I shot my previous personal best 79 on) but went to a fitting and saw the data was noticeably better with 0311 Gen5. I’ve always been a tinkerer and previously played combo sets so I went back to it. So excited to hit the new irons and wedges.

I love the setup!! I currently use the 0211's and curious if you found the XP's more forgiving or how they are different? I am thinking of pulling the trigger on the XP's, but the 0211's have served me so well.

Tough call. I loved the 0211 but the Gen5 will legitimately 10 yards longer with the same height and had tighter dispersion. PXG was doing 90% off heroes full bag fittings so it was $10-15 total. I went in with no expectations but came away a believer. When they dropped hero pricing on the Gen5 to $125 each, it was a no brainer for me. 6 days from order to being on my doorstep from AZ to MN, as well. My fitter also threw in a free hat, which was a nice touch.

That's awesome, the specs look similar but I do think the XP's look way better and now, I just have to resist the urge to buy them! Thanks!!

Keep in mind the 0211’s are a progressive set. They were designed that way and, although it is subtle, you can see it if you’re looking for it. That’s why I went with the XP and P combo set. I didn’t want to overcomplicate things and the T but probably could have found a way, as well.
