*New and Never Hit* Don White Custom MacGregor Pro-M's Made for Jose Maria Olazabel 2009

I've had these since the plant closed here in Albany, GA in May of 2009. This set was the last set Hall of Fame club builder Don White ground for Hall of Fame PGA Tour player Jose Maria Olazabel. MacGregor shuttered the plant before we could deliver these to Jose. They have never been hit and are in mint condition. I acquired them in a buyout of MacGregor components and they've been boxed up securely ever since. This is probably the most beautiful iron set I've ever seen, along with another set that Don White ground for Greg Norman that he played in his last Open Championship. They are ground and assembled to JMO's specs in all areas -- loft, lie, length, offset, shaft and grip. They have TT DG X-100 shafts and Golf Pride Tour Velvet grips (logo down, as Jose required). They are +1/8" in length over standard (37 1/8" on the 7 iron). I did not loft and lie this set but I'm certain they are 2-3 degrees flat. They of course have the topline, toe shape and sole and heel grind preferred by Jose.

 

Don came to my home for breakfast a few weeks back when he was in town and we looked at this set and talked about what a shame it is that MacGregor bit the dust. This set belongs on someone's office wall or in a display case somewhere -- if not the Hall of Fame. I don't have a certificate of authenticity, but Don said he'd write something up or verify via phone that these are authentic and that he ground these for Jose, if need be. Given that a set of Don White personals at MacGregor went for $8,000 per set, I am pricing these to sell quickly at $4,500 shipped and insured anywhere CONUS.

 

As a bonus, I will include another club that was made for Jose -- an Eye O Matic M05 5-wood Tour (not the consumer face, but a Tour milled steel face and long Tour hosel) mounted up on a Diamana Blue Board 73 gram x5ct X-flex with Golf Pride Tour Velvet (logo down, of course). I'm not interested in trades. I am reluctant to ship these internationally but will discuss it with the right buyer if they are willing to take part in additional shipping costs and insurance. I would like to see these go to a GOLFWRX member that appreciates the MacGregor legacy and Don White's craftsmanship and wants to own a peice of history.

Those are just amazing. I feel like I'm looking at a unicorn running across a field of gold lillies that are sparkling in the sunshine. Also unicorn is chrome, which is unusual for the breed, and very fast... which is not unusual.

Gorgeous clubs, looks like the folks at Mizzy & Bridgestone had a great pattern to follow. They look similar to the J40 CB & MP 64 shape.
