Recommendations for a 4w component head?

Rather than just reshaft my current 3w, I've been thinking of replacing it with a 4w (and stiffer shaft). I've been using Golfsmith's components, but they don't make 4w heads. What I'm looking for is a mid to high launch head, for use from the tee and off the deck, .335" bore, square face angle, no offset.

 

Seems I can do this with Bang and SMT (from the few I've looked at). Recommendations? Also, care to recmomend where to buy from? I've looked at Ostrich golf briefly.

The Wishon 949MC 16.5* fairway is as long as most three woods and certainly more forgiving. The three wood search for me was very frustrating, but the discovery of the Wishon solved all problems. High trajectory (mine has a NVS) but with great distance. Hope this helps.

Doesn't Wishon make it really hard to buy directly from them (eg: not through a dealer)?

Well, unfortunately, looking at their test, without some serious fibbing I don't qualify :good: I build for myself, for fun, and not very often (work keeps me too busy). There is a Wishon dealer down the street from my office, but I want to build it myself.

 

Any other recommendations from people? Comments on Bang or SMT?

I always have Golfsmith handpick my metal wood heads at 16* & 19*. You can have them handpick them within one degree either way and that also includes face angle. It costs $2.00 per head which is well worth it. This also guarantee's you the proper loft. Every manufacturer has tolerance within the lofts (normally 1 degree either way), so even if you order a 16* through SMT or someone else you still might be getting a 15* or 17*. You never know until you have them checked. Just ask the sales caddie for it when you order.

You could pick up Sonartec SS-2.5 17* club pretty cheaply (from the 'Bay) and just swap the shaft out.

Very nice head both off the tee and the deck (I use one currently) and a higher launcher to boot. Standard .335" hosel.

I just got a near new 15* for $40.

I have nothing against component clubs ,I've built and played many ,but the best 4 wood for the money in my opinion is the Nike T60 17* .You can get them on fleabay for under $50 (I got a new one for $31)reshaft it with your favorite shaft and you have a world class FW .

They can only do this from Austin because the stores do not have the equipment to test driver lofts. If the sales caddy says this is not available, ask to talk to Mark Ehly. This has been discussed on the Clubmaker Forum. Below is the link.
