Palm Springs Summer Golf

I'm hosting a tournament in Middle of July, am I a fool to secure a location in the Palm Springs area? My logic is that I can host a tournament at a really nice location, probably get a great rate ($60 verse over 100).

 

shotgun start at about 7:30 am... and at about 9:00 it will be over 100 degrees.

But it's a dry heat. And if you're in carts, it should be no big deal. I played many rounds in the Palm Springs area in 100 degree heat when I was going to school out there. Slather on the sunscreen and drink lots of water and sports drinks to stay hydrated.

Come play Rancho Las Palmas. I can give you a $60 rate during the season and play in perfect weather.

I live in the Palm Springs area and play more golf in the summer than because the rates are dirt cheap and my buddy and I have the courses to ourselves. We try to tee off by 8am but are finished by 11am. I tee off by 6am in July/August if I'm playing as a single and make it home before my wife/daughter wake up.

You are probably fine as long as you have an early start time. However, you can probably get rates that are almost the same in June or September and your odds of having temps over 110F would be very slim.

We are acclimated, but it can be a shock to the system if you aren't used to extreme heat. Last June I booked a great deal at Desert Springs Marriott at 11:30am for our foresome (2 of the guys were from out of town). Temps had been moderate but that day jumped to 114F. One of my buddies had to quit after 14 holes from heat exhaustion.

Where are you looking to play? Lots of good tracks to choose from.

Bringing this thread back... Quick question, when do greens fees generally go back up from the summer rates?
Some friends and I are looking into a weekend outing there and would like to book before the rates rise, if possible.

Rates always go up (dramatically) after the courses scalp the Bermuda grass and overseed with Rye grass. Most courses close for a month in October and re-open in November. A few of the courses overseed later than October. If you want cheap rates before they close, September is your best bet.

I would highly recommend calling in advance to check with the course(s) you want to play.

I'm going to miss summer Yes, it is VERY HOT but I'm playing twice a week because rates are so low, and my buddy and I can finish in under 3 hours most of the time. Winter brings excellent weather and faster greens, but you get crowded courses and expensive tee times.
