Authenticating a Scotty

I plan on sending in my Scotty Cameron Newport Beach this winter to the custom shop and getting everything all fixed up the way I want it. When I was looking at the website there are the Certificate A and the Certificate B (along with others that I'm not too worried about).

 

However last winter I did some paintfill on the bottom of the putter. I was wondering if it would be worth taking the paint that I put on off to get the Certificate A in the long run? Or are the types of certificates interchangeable essentially (as long as it's an A or B)?

I will pass on the same advise I was given by a large Cameron collector ( one of the TCC founders ) about 7 years ago when I was going to send my beached centershafted prototype in for the same thing,,, resto and certificate,,,,it is omly worth it of it a circle T or some type of rare model, otherwise the certificate does not add any real value to the putter, use the putter until your ready to hang it on the wall, enjoy it to its fullest,,,, have not sent it in and yes, I still game it from time to time,,,

Unless you have a Tour putter, don't bother getting a COA. IF the custom shop works on your putter, then you know it is an authentic Scotty. If you are the original owner, then you know it is legit, and not worth the $65 and the 4+ week turnaround time on a COA.

As stated above, I would only get a COA if it was tour. Unless you really want a COA that you could frame to display for your putter.

If you did go the COA route and had the Custom Shop do the paintfill, it would get an "A" COA. You would not have to remove your paintfill first.

even if you have a tour putter - it's not always worth sending it in for a COA. I game a 009 and haven't sent it in for COA, because other than resell value, there is no benefit for me. If I ever do plan to sell it, I would send it in to get COA'd.

Also, refinished scotty's don't get as much love as the originals - unless they are OTR putters, then they retain some value when you refinish. Secondly, most of the time, if you refinish outside of scotty, the value will depend on who has the same taste as you as far as style.

I don't really plan on ever selling this Scotty. I guess looking back at it, it was more for myself and possibly for another putter in the future.

I would only authenticate a tour putter. Also, paintfill still would get you the highest grade if you did.
