Vokey SM5 Wedge Photos: shot at the 2013 Shriners

Nice looking wedge but wonder if any changes were made on the face or killing process. I play an older vokey 48 with a standard grind as my pitching wedge right now. It will be nice to update it with this sm5 wedge.

Word on the street is that the Oil Can & Black Nickel finishes are going away and are being replaced by a dark black finish and a honey champagne finish. Tour Chrome will remain as you can see... All coming in Q1

Bummer! I was excited that they brought the oil can finish back and now it's going away again!

Looks like I better jump on some SM4s while I still have the chance.....

Agreed. I really like that the "Vokey Design" got moved to the hosel. Having it spelled out all along the back in the earlier SM versions was too busy for me. Much prefer the cleaner look here--more along the lines of the 200 series or the TVDs.

Titleist getting a free pass for offering cast wedges baffles me. I think Titleist makes great equipment, just not the wedges. Over priced, cast, and offer S200 as stock shafts. Who plays S200?

Cast wedges are every bit as good as forged wedges. I never understand it, b/c I have never been able to tell a difference in performance. Also, you can get S200, S300, S400, and X100 for no upcharge.

I understand you can get several shafts at no up charge. But when I walk into a golf shop and see 20 vokey wedges with S200 shafts it is rediculous. I would be interested to see how many special orders Cleveland or Callaway get for S200s. Probably near zero.

I think most of us agree that forged irons either sound or feel better than cast. Why is this different with the wedges? And please don't cite the marketing crap from Vokey.

Sucks they only offer forged wedges in Japan. Every now and then it pops up in the BST. Some on eBay but they go for crazy prices.

SM5 should be at least no more than a $100 considering the stock s200 and cast wedge.

I am assuming it'll retail the same as the SM4? $129?

At least with something labeled S200 you know what you're getting. All those Callaways and Clevelands with "Wedge" flex DG could be anything from S100 to S500.

As for as the forged vs cast debate, I'm not touching that one with a 10 foot pole.....

Dislike: Before I get into this, I want to provide a disclaimer in the spirit of easyy's post about keeping this board less negative: If you happen to not care about or prefer the S200, then guess what, Vokeys are perfect for you! Be happy and move along! For those who aren't among that first group of people, I say this: Its totally unacceptable that they still have S200 stock. As others have said, there is no reason to put a shaft that nobody plays when you could just as easily (and probably more easily) throw an s300 (or, more ideally, s400) in there. I don't care what anybody says about whether the S200 is better or whether you can tell any difference at all. The point is that if I'm going to pay $130 for a cast wedge I want to get the shaft I want without any delay or special ordering. Also, the point isn't really whether the s200 is "sufficient". Even if it were, a lot of people who just get a vokey for their sand or lob wedge would also be forced to have a different shaft then the rest of their wedges. This makes no sense. Again, for those who don't mind the s200 and are looking for a fight, see disclaimer above. Just wanted to voice my frustrations though and think maybe I am not alone on this.

With the addition of the K grind to the lineup as well as continuing the M grind (as already offered on the SM4) I wonder if they are going to do away with the TVD lineup on Wedgeworks? I heard that they were adding more grind options for 2014, looks like a solid lineup. I hope the SM5's are a little smaller than the SM4's. I find that the TVD head is a smaller shape and looks better to my eye.

No they call it a wedge flex. You have to look under the grip to see that it's s200. I'm baffled as to why they use s200 as stock when s300 is stock in their irons.

I too wish they were S300 but really there is no way I or pretty much anyone else can tell a difference. Put a S300 label on them and im sure most people will think they truly are S300.

Just something for guys to whine about. How is it possible to whine about S200 being stock and then reference custom orders for Cleveland and Callaway that offer "wedge flex" as their stock? Titleist sells more Vokey wedges in probably 3 months than Callaway does all year. You can't please everyone I guess. They offer an incredible amount of stock wedges with awesome stock grinds that will fit 100% of players. Calaway is offering what 4 lofts with 8 total pieces?? I mean 4... compared to Vokey with 9 lofts and 21 different options not including 3 finishes... every loft and 2-3 bounce and grind options in most lofts and we're gonna complain about S200 being stock when you can get any other DG free if you're willing to wait 3 days to get one custom. S200 is offered "stock" because S300 is stock in the players irons and should an AP1 player using the stock XP shafts want to get a stock Vokey the shaft is gonna play just fine. I also don't understand the forged vs cast debate either... the guys on tour have no problem with cast Vokey wedges. Look at the bag pics every week and Vokey leads the field in play going away... by staffers or non staffers.

I just don't get it I guess.... like or dislike Titleist or Vokey but the product and options they put out to retail for $129 is insanely good... in my opinion of course.
