Any other changes in setup? Ball back a bit? Or is it still forward and just relying on the lower handle to increase AoA?

I've had good success with this method overall, but thick rough is giving me issues.

Lowering the handle will shallow out your swing not make it steeper.

EZgolfer- Callaway Mac Daddy 2 wedges with the C-grind are awesome for this.

I mispoke I was referring to swing plane and also pitches not chips. Lower the handle, shallow out the plane, and up the ball goes. It's great.

Trolls gotta troll! I noticed he was disrupting your latest video thread as well Monte. I prefer your technique of ignoring him, but I love seeing Dan's remarks as well since it is shedding more light on the technique. Must be a slow day at the bridge for the troll.

Awesome video, thanks to Hstead for posting it and to Dan for making it.

I think I have a tendancy to keep the handle too low when setting up for these shots and it causes issues on occasion. I gotta get out and try some pitches keeping the handle higher.

Any thoughts on the wrist c0ck in the backswing Dan? Are you actively adding any wrist c0ck going back or is it passive for these shots?

Dan showed me this method in Jacksonville and I use it all the time now. It is an excellent technique and really gives you a large margin for error. It's very simple and it just works. Thanks Dan for making the video, and Hstead for posting it.

Joe isn't wrong about numbers. Talked about what to do a lot but not how to do it. 11 minute video with 9:30 of Trackman numbers and info on what is happening numbers wise. Very little on procedure. Disagree with his prescribed ball position. If you set the handle higher you will be shallower and club will move left sooner. Shouldn't have to try and pull the club up and left to shallow out or zero out path. Those are compensations for having the ball further back than ideal. He also didn't actually hit a shot. A lot of guys can quote numbers and talk about things on paper but being able to execute and demonstrate means you don't only know what happens but truly know how to do it and can do it.

12 degrees of bounce seems like a lot to me and would certainly allow one to square the face more and remove wristcock.

I'll give this a go with my sand wedge.

Hstead - thanks for posting this. I hadn't seen it, but Dan showed me this method when I was down there in July time and it is revelatory to me at any rate. I had completely forgotten about raising up the handle. No wonder I was struggling with it.

Dan - thanks for sharing and thanks for discussing it in here. And thanks for putting up with provocation.

Fellas, don't have to thank me, I had zero to do with it and didn't even know he was making it. Glad he did though as I had forgotten some stuff too even though he has shown me twice. I knew it would be popular among some guys on this site. Is it for everyone, not necessarily. Would it work for everyone if Dan showed them in person, I believe the answer is absolutely. It is just so simple stupid when you understand it and hard to fudge it up. But, when you are slightly mentally slow, you forget parts and need a refresher.

I wouldn't try the prescribed method here, especially since it's elusive to the most of us as mentioned and the margin of error is so little. Maybe I suck, and I don't know about you, but I don't have the ability to hit it one groove thin on purpose.

I do like this video with Grant Waite though:

So simple is an understatement! When Dan was showing me, he intentionally hit the ground 3 - 4" behind the ball. The shot ended up virtually in the same place as one hit crisply. This shot might not be for every shot around the green, at least not without some slight adjustments as Dan has already stated, but for tight lies, it's just almost fool proof.

I recall being told I was an idiot in the other thread when I was explaining to someone that asked that you need to aim at a spot on the ground an inch or so behind the ball and hitting it "fat" on purpose. I was really chastised and made fun of. I said it was like a chunk and run and I was told I didn't know what I was talking about. I wonder if Azinger and Grant know how stupid they are?

I think this is the crux of why Dan's method works. The fatter you hit the shot, the slower the clubhead is moving, but the less spin you put on the ball, so if you hit one a bit clean it comes out hot, but grabs and if you hit it heavy, it carries less, but runs further, so pretty much no matter where you hit the ground (with the bounce) the ball goes the same distance. Gives you tremendous margin for error.
