My Mom has always been a dog nut... she knows almost every breed and can instanly recognize them walking on the street. She once called out a "Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever" walking down the road... I mean who knows that kind of stuff?

Growing up, I think we have had a total of 7 dogs (obviously not all at once) and there have never been less than 3 dogs in our home at once. We have adopted 6/7 times, and I really believe this is a good route to go, but the best of our dogs (IMO) was adopted as a puppy.

Around 3 years ago we purchased a Golden Retriever puppy and I'm convinced he is my best friend. Not only has he affected my life, but also the lives of many others. My Mom trained him flawlessly to be a therapy dog. He is pretty much bomb proof. Usually 2-3 times a week, he volunteers at a nursing him with old folks, sitting patiently by their side. The weird thing is not distracted by other dgs at all, a skill he had to learn before passing the test to become a certified therapy dog. He has won awards for being such a great companion, and has won halloween costume contests as well; furthermore, he knows a vast assortment of commands. "Sit", "lie down", "lie down on your side" are basics. If he is thirsty, he brings you a water bottle. If he needs to go outside, he rings a bell on the door. He can army crawl when told, and play dead (except he wags his tail). He heels when told, and licks food off your hand when told to be more gentle.

Above all though, he is a companion.

This is my families dog. His name is Wilson (he was actually named after the volleyball from the movie Castaway).

He is 11 years old and is a pretty well behaved (most of the time at least). Aside from being half blind he still loves to play Frisbee, chase bocce balls and golf balls, bark at cats, eat apples and sleep.

A typical summer afternoon for him.

He is pretty much my best friend. Not sure what I'd do with out him.

Poncho? Really? I already couldn't handle the epicness, and then he has a cool name to boot.

I have a huge soft spot for Goldens and Labs. I'm sure Poncho loves his line of work, because they genuinely love people.

This is my best friend Diego. He is a chihuahua/papillion mix and is seriously one of the smartest dogs I have ever know. My wife had never owned a pet before we got him and was very hesitant to adopt him. Now she is a super animal person and it truly makes me happy to see how much she has grown and more happy she is now that we have our little buddy to entertain us, play with and most of love us.

I was looking through my swing videos and realized that my border collie rory is featured in almost all of them. She's coming in handy with winter practice by finding all of the balls I hit:

That's awesome! One of my dogs will chase as well, but I'm reluctant to let him do it because he tries to chomp on the balls and puts teeth marks on them. My dream is to one day belong to a club that allows dogs, and have them trained to run after my shots, but just lay down next to them when they find them!

I wasn't the only one that had fun on a recent trip to Bandon! Tulabell is brown, Oso is white and Champ is black.

I had the issue with teeth marks when she snagged a few Q-Stars out of my open bag. Now, I only hit rock-flites to her. I've bought balls made for the driving range before and those work quite nicely. I just make sure they don't get too gnawed up, and if they do, I toss them in the trash

This is Riley - he's 13 and doesn't know it. This is our 2nd Golden and the best dog I've ever had.
As Nike says - just do it! (and enroll in a puppy class - its as much for you as him)
