Best LED/LCD TV?

I got the Vizio 70" at Costco over the weekend. They actually had it in stock. I had brought my Thule straps but I didn't think it could go flat on the roof rack. Guy in the store said they're packaged so well it wouldn't be a problem. Drove very carefully on the way home and my neighbor helped me get it inside. Set it up the next morning and the picture looked like $hit. Everybody was green, I told my wife it just needed some adjustments. I tried but they didn't help, I thought I had a bad set. Was just about to head to Best Buy for a HDMI cable and thought to re-check the connections. DOH! The red connector on the component connection wasn't seated. Fixed that and it was good after I reversed my adjustment settings.

Looks great now, but I still have some minor color adjustment settings to work on to get it just right.

Watched some golf and football Sunday, both looked really good.

I get 90 days to return it if I don't like it, but I think it'll be a keeper, especially at the price. I actually think the 80" would have been fine for my family room but I didn't want to spend the extra $$ (the wife wouldn't let me, she wasn't happy about the price of the 70").

The Vizio is worth checking out, great picture and a great price.

After about 2 weeks, still very happy with the Vizio 70". Great picture for everything, including golf.

I also had Verizon FIOS installed yesterday. Picture is somewhat better than DirecTV and I don't have to worry about drop-outs when there's a thunderstorm or snow storm. Saved a lot over my previous services (Cox for internet, ATT for land lines, and DirecTV). Worth checking out.

still on analog? why the need of components and not just straight HDMI cable? IIRC, most Direct TV channels are 1080p? of course with the best reception.

Analog? That hasn't been available for years. Everything HD from Sat and cable providers is 1080i. Blue Ray is the only way to get 1080p.

I know that which is why I was asking why you're using a component cable and not HDMI.

Component cables are analog. Its a digital signal from Directv being transferred over analog cables to your HD set.

The reality is that I've never been able to see much of a difference between the two, but it is what it is.

yea my parents had components. when they switch to a smaller tv mounting stand. I swapped all those thick component cables for one HDMI. not difference in their eyes.

Now I get it, the component cables would probably be analog. But all incoming signals are digital. Honestly, I didn't see any difference between the component and HDMI. You'd probably see a difference with 1080p input, but it might not be significant. The reason I was using component was the Denon receiver I have only has component switching (it was state of the art when I bought it for big $$). But I run HDMI now from the new FiOS box to the new TV. My ancient DVD player only has component, that (and the receiver) will be upgraded soon. Recommendations for those are welcome.

What type of features are you looking for in the receiver? Some of the Pioneer elite series are really good bang for your buck.

The VSX-43 or 70 are really good options.

bought a Samsung 55" LED about a year ago. works and looks clear. living in an apartment it's the perfect size. once we buy a house which will be soon, i plan on hanging the TV somewhere. also depending in the size of the living room, i may want to upgrade in size. now and days 50-55" seems to be the new 40-42" from when my parents bought theirs.

I want inexpensive and simple to operate. 7.1 sound, HDMI switching, 3D and 4K pass-through capable. Don't need a lot of power.
