R510TP versus R580XD TP

Comparison of Heads

I currently have an R510TP/Speeder 757 driver which I like a lot. Since it is only 390cc, I have been wondering about moving up to a larger driver head. One that I have considered is the R580XD TP, but I am not familiar with this head.

Can someone give me the lowdown on the head?

Is the face angle square?
How is the spin versus the R510TP?
How do the face areas compare (length & height)?
How is the 580XD TP different from the 580XD?

I am looking for any input on how these two drivers compare so I could make a decision about getting the 580. Also if you have any comments in general about other drivers that might work if the 510TP works well for me now, and if there is anything to be gained by moving to a larger headed driver.

Being that I used to own an R510TP and am now the proud daddy of an R580XD TP Tour (hopefully another R580XD TP on the way), here is my input.

1) The face angle on my R580XD TP is as square as square can be. The face is not closed as opposed to the retail versions.

2) Can't tell you too much about spin, but I think the R580XD TP seems to spin less. Again, I believe it depends on what shaft you would be looking at as well.

3) As far as the face height, I didn't really measure, but the face height is very similar. The face length on the R580XD TP is a little longer as that is attributed to the 440cc head size compared to the 390cc of the R510tp.

4) As far as the difference between the R580XD TP and the retail R580XD, well the face sits square, you have a much better shaft in the R580XD TP than the retail shaft, visually there is a light difference on the R580XD TP's rear section around the weight port when compared to the retail R580XD. Can't really describe it, but of you compare the two, you will see it. Very subtle difference though. Probably the internal weighting of the head may be slightly heavier.

Remember, the R580XD TP was primarily a tour issued club, so the specs for each one could be different.
