What do I get my mom for Christmas?

I really have no clue.. I've gotten her clothes, jewelry, bags, etc from her favorite stores the past years, and feel like thats getting a little old. My Mom is awesome and I want to get her something she deserves for putting up with me for 20 years! Any ideas or suggestions?

Get something you think your future wife will want.

Before your mother decides whether she likes your wife or not she will not waste money on gifts, but rather "re-gift" those things you bought for her years ago.

If, after the closet is empty you will truly know if she approves or not. If your wife is getting scented lotions? No. Family treasures? Yes.

She tried to give it back to me on the spot. I bought her a book on it and forced her to keep it until the next time I saw her. She gave it back to me the next time I saw her.

My Mom is a pain to shop for because she never wants anything. So last year I worked with a local florist to create a new arrangement every month for my mom and she loved it because it was something new and creative all year long. Also,Im not on the hook for something expensive now, but spread out over the year. I get something around $40 a month, and because I am buying 1x a month they give me a better arrangement for less money. The florist just calls her when it is ready and they charge my card.

Gibby that is a great idea. I get mom restaurant gift cards,cards from nicer restaurants. This kind of forces my dad to take mom out to a nice restaurant. Fleming's this year. Who doesn't love a good meal.

Restaurant gift cards are always a good idea. But they need to be better restaurants (not McDonalds or Red Lobster).

Harry & David has many good gift options. If you want to splurge, you could get a monthly box of fruit (different fruits every month) that keeps coming all year long. They also have less expensive options. Their stuff is expensive but extremely high quality.

A weekend getaway at a nice bed & breakfast in an interesting location could be fun.

Think outside the box.

+1 on Harry & David -- you get a box of those pears, and they're huge and delicious. My mother's been gone a while, but I used to buy her more expensive food -- steaks, roasts, olive oil, and the like. She always used it, and she had gotten to the age where she didn't want more clothing or "dust collectors" around the house. And she didn't really enjoy going out to eat -- the health department reports that they started putting in the local papers back in the early 1970s seemed to extinguish her desire to go out much. I would get it from the supermarkets, but you could always order stuff from Omaha Steaks or some of the other catalog food companies.

I bought my mom and dad iPad mini's this year. They're gonna be pissed because they hate when I buy them something, but they give me so much for Christmas it was only right to get them something good.

As I have become older (27 now) my parents pretty refuse to let me guy them a gift. They hate seeing me spend money on them when they really do need or want anything. To them, me saving a couple hundred bucks of my hard earn dollars is more important than them getting a gift (their words, not mine). I feel bad because I have a career and can easily afford to buy them gifts, but, they simply don't want them. Over the past couple of years I just make a concerted effort to spend a lot of time with them around the holidays (I hang with my parents a lot, they live a mile away, but during the holidays I go over board) because in the end that's all we want. We just want to spend time together. Once again I didn't ask for any gifts for Christmas this year. My mom insisted so I caved and told her I wanted to freshen up some of the casual clothes. Last night, for 5 hours, I went shopping with her, bought her dinner, etc. etc. Spending the time together is better than the clothes, better than any gifts.

Gifts don't have to be big. Gifts don't have to cost money. The most important part of the holidays is spending time with your loved ones. Instead of getting a gift card or something trivial like that, just take your parents out to a nice dinner (or cook for them?). You get to spend quality time with them and you can pick up the tab as a little extra treat.

Get her one of those digital picture frames (I'm not sure what they're actually called) and load it up with pictures of yourself and your family. Bust out the scanner and get the old photos too, she'll love that.

You know what she likes ... If she likes to cook, go look through the Williams-Sonoma catalog, if she likes Tea, get her an assortment of nice tea, stuff like that.

Well, your Mom obviously does not play golf, or you'd know what to get her. I'd be thrilled to get a gift certificate at a good sporting goods store, but then, I'm a different sort of Mom than most.

Get a nice bottle of wine, maybe something else she likes to nibble on. When she opens them up, tell her it's time to bring out the old picture boxes and go rifle through the memories. Ask little, listen lots. The older you get, the more stories they will let you hear. You'll learn a lot about your family.

Make a gift basket up of some of her favorite things, foods, soaps, gift cards to stores she likes, a family picture, a homemade card. Moms like that stuff.

This is the worst thing to get parents EVER. I did it, and they keep Facetime-ing me, asking me a million questions and getting me to go over for tech support. Think about it!
