i think you might become a Zen master BHSP, such discipline and dedication is rare.
The one who understands there is only the path, there is no destination, there is no future, there is only now.
Of course, you might be just nuts....

hi tembolo, well i would happily make a thread on golfing and related things in thailand as long as it doesn't get out of control like last time and i got put in the naughty corner for a while.
maybe in the general talk forum would be most appropriate. i haven't seen much that looks like Ben Hogan here.
so far its been a bit dull, arrived 3 days ago. Found my favourite driving range closed, the owner owed too much money to the bank and couldn't make the interest payments, very common here for people to over-extend themselves and not think too much about the future.
I'll let you know when i start it. chok dee mate.

wow. scoring in the 100s? after two years?

Proves why noone should try to duplicate Hogan's swing.

^^^Truth. That's why I stopped chasing the perfect hogan swing. I am just using what I learned from studying him and integrating it to my own swing. Either way, learning his fundamentals will set you the right way =)

I applaud your work ethic but I don't see any resemblance to Hogan's swing. Weak delivery in the down swing with the club falling below swing path. I would think that to get into the right positions and gain consistency it would be better to first learn the
sequence with irons, once creditable go to the driver. Just my opinion, good luck.

She does have a great swing. Her right elbow is a little more alongside her right hip coming into impact instead of in front of it like Hogan, but her transition is way cool with the little lay - off swallowing move. Nice find!

I don't want to hit the ball 300yds.
At this point, I don't even want to hit the ball solidly...it doesn't even have to go straight. (Once I get the movements down, I'll work on the game and scoring)

I only want to dulicate every one of Hogans movememts.....from the waggle, to the full swing, to the stand there and watch it go.
I say there is no mechanical swing secret, just mental secrets and secret feelings.

I applaud your effort BHSP. I really do. That said, I pasted parts of your first post from 2 1/2 years ago to make a point. Hogan's swing looked the way it did precisely because he was trying to hit it hard, straight, and solidly. The visual aspects of his swing were merely a byproduct of intent. From the beginning, based off the nature in which you went after it, this project was destined to be exactly what it is. An exercise in futility.

I think this is a great example of how chasing positions can destroy someones game (I fell into that rabbit hole as well), and can be a lesson for many. My guess is that you spend endless hours checking each frame of the swing, using mirrors and cameras to try to put yourself in a visually similar position, but only looking at one angle at a time while doing so, and never two angles at full speed while hitting balls for effect while analyzing from a 3 dimensional understanding. By doing so you have ignored, and even ingrained the opposite of, dynamics and athleticism. Know that Hogans swing would not look the way it did if his body wasn't moving fast. In fact many of his consecutive-framed positions would be impossible achieve if things weren't moving fast and in response to other parts moving fast.

The video from your first post is much closer to your model, and honestly from that swing you just needed to learn how to release the club differently. I assume that you want to get the motion grooved, then put some speed in, but realize that once things start speeding up, positions change. It's self-defeating to try to learn any motion this way.

I say all this not to discourage you or as a subversive attack, rather as a bit of a plea. If you truly want to swing similarly to Hogan, I honestly believe you need to abandon this project in it's current form. Take a couple months off camera. No mirror work. Just go out to a field, set a ball up 2-3 feet off the ground, and hit it with a driver. Let your body relearn a natural swinging motion, and make sure you let your hips lead. Once that starts to click, lower the teeing height incrementally, over time. The end byproduct will have you closer to what you're looking for than any amount of stop motion ever could.

Once again, I applaud your effort and realize criticism isn't always well-recieved. But I've never understood praising hard effort when no work is being accomplished. Please take this for what it is, and I honestly wish you the best of luck with your endeavor.

Agree also with SPIF. This is what happens when you're seeking the looks and totally disregard the brain's intents. What's happening on Hogan are the results of his intents way before it happens. Most of it at setup, such as the grip, posture, stance and plane. Then all he is trying to do really is simply get himself to the top then fire his hips and swing and hit as hard as he can.
