Top-Flite Gamer Tour(merged)

I've been tempted, but at $25/dozen, there are still loads of Penta, Penta TP5, Penta TP3, TP Black for same or less online… all of which are urethane, 3-5 piece balls with a higher pedigree. Every time I think about grabbing a box of Gamer Tours I remember that, and end up grabbing a box of Gamer V2s. ($12.49 at Dick's last night, couldn't pass that up for winter.)

If I ever see a sleeve of Gamer Tours for sale, however, I'll probably nab one just to try.

Yes. I played 9 with them a couple of weeks ago. I usually play Z-Stars, but in Colorado I was looking for a winter ball. The ball is impressive at $25.00 a dozen. Just think of the Gamer V2 with more bite.

Interesting, I found them to be a full club shorter than the V2 with irons and more with woods. I also found the Tour ball to be extremely unstable down wind. Not as unstable into the wind but definitely NOT the original V2 which I played for the past 3 years. This is a 36 hole sampling, also. I came home today and put the remaining 10 balls from the dozen i bought into my shag bag.

???? I have hit dozens of different types of golf balls and have never seen a difference in an entire club length from one ball to the next especially in the $20 and up range. Maybe if I flush ball A and hosel rocket ball B it could happen. Am I the only one that just doesn't see this as being a reality? Or is this another "I am a golfWRXer with swingspeed of only 215, average 380 off the tee and lose a full club length when I play a sub $30 ball." type of thing?

It must be the swingspeed of only 215. :taunt:

I am not sure but I can tell you my experience.

I suck - 18 handicap and a proud card carrying member of the MGA Tour. My rounds are typically in the low 90s. One thing I can do pretty well is hit the ball far.

I started playing the GamerV2 ball last year and immediately felt that it was the perfect ball for me. Long off the tee and the very few times I would hit a green in regulation the ball would bite. I even saw it spin backwards once. Once.

So naturally I was concerned about Dick's taking the Top Flite brand and decided to drive 40 miles to the closest Dick's to buy a box of the Gamer Tour. Took it out to a course that I play all the time and noticed in just a few holes that I was coming up short on a lot of my shots which is usually not the case for me. Typically I hit the right distance...just not where I was aiming.

I have played it a couple of times since and noticed the same thing again. If I am 150 out I would normally play my 8 iron but with the Tour I was finding myself having to go to my 7 otherwise I risked coming up short.

Now I am the proud owner of a 3/4 box of Gamer Tours which are collecting dust in my garage along with many of my other ill advised purchases.

Why not play them, just go with the 7 iron???? The goal is to get the ball in the hole, regardless of which club you use...
