What makes you say that?

What's your thoughts on the EZ line then?

looks cast and cheap and oversized
[/quote]

In person it looks better than most the new clubs and since it's compared to the G25 by many, I will tell you it not only looks better but for me, performed much better. I will go as far as saying that they are sweet looking in person. I love it that Mizuno dared to change and attract a new and maybe younger demographic. For the record, I hate the color of orange, yet my current set is Cobra AMP Forged and my soon to be new set could be this EZ series which are awesome and both have orange accents. I choose clubs on performance and able to overcome small amount of color. Now if you want a cheap looking iron, look at the Callaway X2's. I won't pass judgment though until I hit them because it's all about performance and lower scores.

I don't like the fact that Mizuno is creeping into "too much offset" territory.

Mizuno makes the best looking iron at address in the business. Everybody has to offer a GI iron set. You can look at every single company and see what you are seeing in the EZ line, and that's because Mizuno realizes that 75% of golfers are above 15 handicaps and need this kind of forgiving club. Are you really going to make fun of them because they are now catering to 75% of the golfers in America? Really?

A company can make a forged player's iron that has a thin topline, no offset, and is forgiving. If anyone should be able to do that without question is Mizuno.

I used to hate the thicker topline myself but after hitting the JPX 800 pro's I immediately replaced my set for them. I gladly gave up the sexier looks of the butter knifes I was using for forgiveness and kept the soft feel. To me, I could deal with the bigger look at address for the ease of mind that I can miss the center of the face and still get results. Less beating of range balls for me too ;)

With that being said, those MP-4's make me want to cheat on my jpx pro's!!!

JPX 825 Pro is outstanding. Pretty sure it is a Mizuno club given Stacey Lewis used it to ascend to #1 and win the British Open last year. Not sure how it's bad for the brand.

The way Mizuno thinks about its offerings is two-fold: The MP line for what they call shot-makers, and the JPX line for (their term) risk takers. From what I can tell, Mizuno is very proud of all the tech they put into the EZ line. I play them and they are excellent, and right on par with Ping GI irons. Looks are subjective, and if a player wants GI, he or she can go EZ or JPX 825 which is a more traditional Mizuno looking iron.

I think the reality is that Mizuno's market share of the 90s has eroded, even in their home market of Japan. To keep doing what they want to do--innovate though R&D and maintain quality, all without the marketing and endorsement spend of larger rivals, they need to be more than a specialty maker of forged blades. Is the EZ very different from what you might expect from Mizuno? Sure, they say that themselves.

I hope this is a good thing for them and Mizuno can raise their profile on the US PGA tour.

I personally prefer the looks of thin top line and low offset, but the reality is that the market dictates the opposite. Truth of the matter is, as most of us are not getting my younger, those who are just getting in to the game are learning on thicker, more offset clubs. As they graduate from the GI styles into the players type irons, the transition is easier for them with thickness and offer that they are comfortable with. End of the day, Mizuno I alike any other business- Ned to make $ to stay a business and not a charity.
