Orlimar Tri Metal

Recommended Posts

• Alpha maraging face is stronger and harder than titanium – this allows for weight to be distributed to parts of the club head where it is needed most

• The lower-profile club head allows players to get the ball in the air more easily and consistently

• Club face is 15,000 pounds per square inch stronger than the original TriMetal fairway woods

• Unique CT-801 process produces a stronger and thinner club face which translates into longer and straighter shots

• Copper tungsten weights in the sole make for a larger, more forgiving sweet spot

Wow, these things have been out forever and no reviews. Not sure what to make of that? I have the Trimetall II 15 and 19 and I have been back and forth with them. They've come out of the bag a couple times, but they always seem to get back in. The low profile makes me a bit nervous off of the tee, but they are sweet off of the fairway. I don't use them in the rough either, they are a FAIRWAY wood only. True one trick ponies. But they get the ball in the air and they feel and sound really solid. They are a much better club than I used to give them credit for. You can pick them up for cheap now too, always a plus. I took the 5 wood out to make room for an extra wedge (you know, to score better), but then realized that my wedge play sucks. So the 5 wood is in the bag for awhile! ;)

I have a 21 degree trimetal and love it. picked it up in the used bin for about $20. It's great off the fairway and it's about as thin as a waffle so it cuts through the rough pretty nicely. Probably about the same thickness as today's mallet putters. Yes, it's a beginner club but as I'm testing other fairway woods, I'm finding it hard to replace.

12* tri metal hip steel w/ aldila nv 75-r
GREAT CLUB! awsome distance great of the deck but incredible as a driving club. i hit it about 210-220yds carry gets good role. awsome for long par fives after a not so stellar drive. the shaft along with the 12*give it a great low trajectory, which is great where i live because it's always windy. pured shots are great, just enough forgiveness to be agressive. very calm at adress, a little open imo, but that's just fine since i tend to pull agressive tee shots. beautiful, and pretty inexpensive, i bought it barely used with shaft and a nice winn grip for $45! give it a try :cheesy:

At one time these things sold like hot cakes, but I have never liked them or the way they hit.
I never liked these clubs, I had the original 3 wood and it went A MILE if I hit it right. Hitting it right is a big "if" and most of the time I couldn't get consistent with it.
I know what you mean. My 3 wood was an utter pig of the tee if you did not get the tee height just right. All too ofter I left the angels with sore backsides because I skyed it. Mind you, when you did get it right they went like a bomb.

I would regard the Orlimar TriMetal Plus as the best fairway wood ever made, for mid to high handicappers. I've had an 18 and 22 degree since they came onto the market. Very easy to hit cleanly from the fairway and the ball goes a mile!

They are nice, but a little tricky to use of the tee. I knew many in the day who would never use Trimetals off the tee to avoid skying them.

I received a 'hand-me-down' Trimetal set consisting of a 14w, 15w, 17w and 4i-PW with R-flex graphite. I replaced the worn original Orlimar grips with new Winns. At the range, I compared my 20yo custom steel-shaft irons with the Tris and with each club was easily hitting the Tris 10-30 yards farther with variable loft. I have not tried the woods since I love my TM Bubble Shaft 3w and Slazenger 3h. I needed new irons and was considering a new Cobra set but the O's will last for at least a season. Instead, may be trade in my TM 580 driver for a variable loft Cobra or TM Slider. I am anxious to take the Tris on the links after the snow melts.
