Who will keep playing the Hex Chrome

Gbyeball

Recommended Posts

This is one of my favourite golf balls, does everything well for my swing. I am going to buy 4 - 5 dozen mint used and continue to play them this coming season.

I like having consistency with balls as it is the only piece of equipment you use on every shot.

So all you other Hex Chrome users and lovers, you sticking with them or moving to something new and exciting

I keep coming back to this ball ,as much as I try to play another, the way this ball plays for me on my short game is just about perfect. I have shot my best rounds of the winter with these, great 3 piece urethane ball. I prefer Lethals when the temps are above 70 but I'll be playing Chromes until about May most likely.

I love this ball. It worried me when they came out with the new line. I didn't see a replacement for this ball. ??

Chrome + for me in 2014. Both are very good balls at any price, so the lower price is just a bonus.

The Callaway HEX Chrome is a phenomenal ball with an excellent value for money. During the second half of the year I played the Bridgestones and Titleists and the Tour B330S came out as a winner for my game. Comparing the B330S with the HEX Chrome i found out that the Chrome suits me even better. Although I do not lose too many balls i did augment my stock of HEX Chrome and bunker about 10 dozen right now. It's hard to get any better than with the HEX Chrome.

They will only part from my cold, dead hands.... LOL !

I really like the Chrome for my game. Have been impressed starting with the first one I hit.
Long off the woods and pierces the wind. Stops where they land on full iron shots. Nice feel off the putter.
I've adjusted to the bit of roll out on partial swings. The feel with my 98mph swing kept me coming back.

I've picked them up new for as low as 150/6doz shipped.
Picked up a cupla 50 ball buckets from LGB for practice, water holes and casual rounds.

I'm all set and can't figure out why I would even consider changing from such a fine ball.

I was a big fan of the original Chrome. I wasn't sure I had the swing speed to play the Chrome+. I put them head to head on an empty course, an the + out performed. It is the best ball I have used. Believe me when I say I have tried them all. In any weather.

I really like this ball and gamed it for a while, but with the advent of the SuperSoft at a much lower price point, straighter and longer flight, I'm gonna have to ditch the Chrome in favor of the SuperSoft. The only way I could stick with the Chrome is if they came down in price or buy them used. $20 for a dozen 4A Chromes, or $20 for a box of brand new SuperSofts which perform just as good in many aspects for me?

SuperSoft it is....

I don't mind the price of the ball because it's a fair price for what you get IMHO. The ball spins well, is very durable and it's long as well. Since I'm on a budget I play the Chromes on courses with less water and I stop playing it when the leaves really start to fall. I also stop playing them when I lose two in a round. I just don't like to throw money away when it can be avoided.

Chrome is three layer ball, Chrome+ is four layer ball. Generally the additional layers offer more spin separation from driver to wedges.

In my Trackman testing, I found Chrome to spin more on all clubs, driver through wedge, when compared to Chrome+.

So, if you have a lower sling speed, generally the additional spin of Chrome is good. Faster swing speeds will enjoy the lower spin Chrome+ offers through the bag.

Hex Chrome x-outs are $20/box. I tried out the supersofts and the verdict is still out on them. Definitely a much different feel to them off all clubs and I wouldn't necessarily consider it soft. They did seem to have a straighter flight though.

Have you had a chance to play the Super Soft ball. I have read all the posts about it, not enough playing time on this ball for me to believe all the excitement. If it works for you, great, as that is the most important thing.

I doubt I will try it. I like a urethane cover ball as I chip agressively and the chrome is the least spinning ball I will play. I cannot stand really soft mushy feeling balls, tried a B330RXS and did not like the feel at all. No doubt the SS goes long, straight and cuts through the wind, that is what I love about Callaway balls.

Let me know how it works for you regarding spin around the green. I try to keep an open mind and might give it a test.

In regard to spin, it's no tour ball, but it's ample enough for me. Where I can spin a Chrome back about 5-7 ft, I can spin a SS back about 2-4ft.

This thread and a GG triple points coupon prompted me to buy another dozen last night. I won't bother trying any of the new Callaway balls since this is the only ball of their's I've ever liked, including Chome+.

I like the Hex Chrome quite a bit. As a mid-handicapper, I look for a ball that likes to go straight and long, doesn't feel like a rock or too soft, and has decent spin around the greens. The Hex Chrome fits that bill, and is among my favorite balls along with the TP Blacks and TP3's. But being that I already own several boxes each of the TP Blacks and TP3's, I don't see myself playing the Chromes reqularly anytime soon. Solid ball though.

Because:

SR2 is more durable than Chrome & Chrome+
SR2 is softer than Chrome+
SR2 has less driver spin than Chrome & Chrome+
SR2 has more short iron and wedge spin than Chrome+

This isn't my opinion, all spin numbers are from my Trackman session comparing these balls.

Now, if these things aren't true for your swing or they won't help your game, then agreed with previous posts... No reason to switch.

I played the Chrome all last season and I like it a lot. This ball fits me well. But, I was told the Chrome will be phased out this year but not sure when. I am looking around for a good replacement.

....or get a few dozen to fill up the stock, e.g. logo-overruns for a bargain. That's what I did because I really don't care if there's a lollipop- or chase-logo on the ball. I got them for less than $20 a dozen.
