Hogan left wrist fully cocked by left arm parallel but he ain't intentionally cocking it. Why? How?

His left wrist is clearly fully cocked by left arm parallel, but he isn't consciously cocking them. Why is this? How did he do it?

When hands are in front of right thigh or hip after takeaway, his left wrist didn't c0ck a bit at all. But by left arm parallel it's fully cocked!

What you guys think? No wrong answers here, the more the absurd the answer the better! Why not, the politically correct answers never had results...:)

I'd say that by the time shaft is parallel to the ground it's still didn't c0ck or hardly at all. After shaft parallel to ground the right elbow really starts to bend, right forearm supinate, and right wrist bends back. The right wrist bends back such that there is no cocking of the right wrist at the top of the swing.

This bending back of the right wrist and rotation of the right forearm forces the left wrist to c0ck.

That's my guess!

Yes, agree on your observations. But take exception on the right forearm supinate thing as a feel. IMO, a supinating right forearm is a dangerous feel because it tends, more often than not, to layoff the club too much. Plus the right hand grip plays a major part. Say your left hand grip is weak and your right hand grip is weaker (right hand or palm more on top than parallel to left hand or thumb), supination the right forearm actively would be a disaster IMO because that means the back of left hand would be facing the sky too much (too much pronation). You'll get steep for sure once pivot engages target wards.

Besides, right forearm pronation fucks up with left wrist cocking because it goes against the direction where the left wrist cocks. In other words, right forearm supination actually prevents full range of cocking of the left wrist, right forearm supination is more in the direction of left wrist bowing. It fights full cocking of left wrist and encourages left wrist bowing, both of which Hogan didn't do nor say.

Are you saying there should be zero right forearm supination in the backswing?
[/quote]

No, I recognize that the right forearm supinates. I have issues win it as a FEEL or INTENT, and that's IF you have a weaker right hand grip (right hand more on top of left hand or hand).

If you qualify for the above feel and grip, it gets shaft too flat going up (even with left shoulder down move) (you can't trace the baseline with the butt of club), interferes with hinging or cocking and uncocking motion of the left wrist, and predisposes the left wrist to a bowing direction or motion. No way you can return to shaft plane at impact with this like Hogan. Just no way, IMO.

Could have been in the collection or the previous McLean DVD , can't remember , but it was about pronating left forearm and bending the left wrist which in turn cocks the left wrist

Hogan said exactly same thing in 1985 Golf Digest. He said, I'm paraphrasing: "I rolled the face of the club open away from the ball. That cupped my left wrist." Seems like he really ain't cocking the left wrist actively.

When the right hand is more on top of left thumb instead of right hand perfectly parallel to left palm or on the side, when the left wrist or forearm pronates, the left wrist will automatically cup. But if the right hand is on the side and not on top of left thumb, pronating the left forearm and wrist won't bend or cup the left wrist, and when the right wrist bends back sooner or later, the left wrist flattens or bows. The more the right hand is stronger or less weak than the left hand, the more the left wrist bows when the right wrist bends back.

So makes sense that Hogan said he isn't consciously cocking the wrists, and said that he's just opening the face.

Do you think Hogan pronates the left forearm and cups the left wrist too when hitting draws?

Hogan's left wrist is cupped on the backswing because he sets it that way at address,(His right wrist is pretty straight)
.
He simply pushes the club back with his whole left side, retaining the cup.

That setup and backswing are to assure that he doesn't whip the club too much inside going back ---- an anti-hook address and backswing.

On the downswing he just reverses it to get some shaft lean, and to connect the right elbow with the right hip.

Jason Dufner does the same thing in his swing, and he's a big Hogan fan.

Hogan's swing was a hook swing with enough anti-hook safeguards built in, allowing him to apply maximum rotary power application without fear of a hook.

Weak grip
Clubface gripped open at address
Club lagged back on backswing keeping the club in front of his chest
Stabilized club face thru impact preventing hand flipping or forearm rotation
Huge lateral move toward the target on downswing, tending to move the impact point back in his stance relative to address. This
also prevented early turn down of the face by artificially mading him fractionally late at impact.
Etc
