Steel (1018) Blade/Answer Style

Howdy,

Second in the series of home milled putters!

Material is 1018 steel, 35" length. Weight unknown (May verify weight later with CAD software), but feels heavy.

Everything was sanded and scotchbrighted except for the face. Three coats of liquid gunblue was applied and the whole putter rubbed down with fine steel wool.

So far this one is my gamer.

Next up is an aluminum MOI style putter which is well underway. I'll include some "in-process" pics of that one.

how will the shaft go in?

It's center shafted. The pictures are dark, but if you look closely you can see the reflection of the drilled hole in the low center section of the putter. All assembled it's face-balanced (I play LH).

Nice job! How's the feel on it? And how many putters have you made already? I bet it can become a neverending hobby, making putters every month.

It's made out of very low carbon steel (1018), and so feels really soft.

It's center shafted, and almost perfectly face balanced. Favours a pendulum straight-back, straight-through stroke.

I haven't calculated the weight on it yet, but it's got some serious heft. Probably a good 370-380 grams.

I currently working on my fourth putter, an aluminum MOI style putter with 2 major pieces (face and body). Almost finished the face, just have to mill the loft and drill the hole for the shaft. There will be a strip of brass running along the bottom of the body to lower the COG and bring the weight up. When it's all milled I'll send the two aluminum parts off to be anodized black. Will have some pics up soon.

It's gotten pretty addictive, and I can't wait to finish this putter!
