Tiger Woods' Putter Question

What model of Ping did Tiger Woods use before he used Cameron. I thought I heard it was the Ping Anser 2, but I could be wrong.

Yes, Anser 2 (not Anser). Tiger still uses the Pingman grip on his Cammy.

Yep Anser 2 Stainless. He had it made because he used Mark O'Meara's when they were in Ireland before the British Open a few years ago.

 

He did use a Scotty Newport Terylium before that though.

i know tiger used an answer 2 before his cammy but was it a scottsdale or phonex model ping and if it was one of those models what year was it. like 1970 for example. and scottsdale and phenox mean what factory they were made in. if somebody has this information i would be very happy thanks.

Since the Anser 2 Did not come out until the Early 1980's. 1983 I Believe. And of course all then were Phoenix.

As noted above. The Ping Anser 2 came out in the early 1980's.

I believe 1983.

And they still make it today. So it could be 1983 model to whenever Tiger used one.

There was a Del Mar mixed in there somewhere and also the Scottydale was before the Tei3.

The Stainless Anser 2 came out in 1981. As far as I can remenber, Tiger used the Anser 2 in The Open at Birkdale when O'Meara won. Tiger also used a normal SC Newport during part of his Amateur career. I believe his change of putters would be something like:

Scotty Cameron Newport (1996 Amateur)
Scotty Cameron Scottydale (1996 Pro)
Scotty Cameron Newport II Teryllium (1997 Masters)
Ping Anser II Stainless (1998)
Scotty Cameron Newport II GSS

Tiger uses a Pingman grip "because that's what he grew up playing with..." According to many sources...not sure how truthful it is...but that's that.

Anser 2, Pat Pend under the top line, stainless steel cast putter. These were worth silly money when Tiger had one in his bag. The DAY he put it away, the value went south so fast it wasn't even funny.
Great putters and probably the same weight as his Cameron gamer. I would bet on a weight of sub-335 grams. Anyone else have a guess?

Woods won the 97' Masters with a Cameron TeI3 Newport.

 

His 13 other majors were won with his GSS Newport 2.

Tiger would've won those majors with a tin can tied to a stick as a putter. The method has nothing to do with his drought. The in's do, as in injuries and infidelity's. Now as to why Dustin Johnson hasn't a major we can talk putter. And not because it's a Cameron, cause he can't putt and Tiger could b4 the wheels came off. I truly believe during Tigers run the putter kind didn't matter, he was just a beast

Putter change may certainly be a factor, but i heard Foley screwed him up getting him to focus on his mechanics and "over" rotation.

Maybe he needs a 612 to get back on track........
