Fixing Divots

Recommended Posts

Nobody at my club fixes their divots, at all. Everytime I walk on the green I end up fixing my divot, and about 5 others while I'm standing there. This is on every green on the course. Has anyone encountered this before? Is there a way to bring this up to where something might change? I don't really like the course all that much anyway, and don't plan on renewing when my year is up in August, but I'd like to be able to putt without having to avoid craters.

I'm just going to say it before someone else does: Why are so many people taking divots with their putters? Looking to spin the putt back? :-)

Maybe Hidecki was there.

If you putt it past the hole and back it up, you're really giving yourself two chances to make it :derisive:

Maybe I'm just way too nice, but fixing divots (real ones) on the course and pitch marks or "ball marks" (like that term) on greens is something I've always tried to do since the first day I set foot on a course. It is astonishing to me....absolutely astonishing...the number of players I see here and in Texas -- players of ALL calibers mind you -- who don't do that at all. I can't tell you the number of times I've gotten chided, "You're helping them with their course maintenance?" when I'm simply filling a divot with sand mix.

Honestly it's one of the things in golf that I am flabbergasted by.

Really??!! People give you a hard time because you're filling divots? Just say, "Yeah, I'm making this a better place to play." And if you want to be smarmy (since they were), "And so should you."

Agreed. On my home course, which is quite pricey, I often go through 3 or 4 sand/seed bottles a round fixing other players' divots. It drives me nuts why they don't take better care of the course.

The flipside is that numerous times I've gotten out on the course, only to find the sand/seed bottles empty on my cart. If the course wants people to fill divots, they can't send folks out with empty bottles.

Lastly, there are several places on the course where the 'Carts -->>>' signs are placed 20 to 30 yards in front of common landing area, requiring players to carry the bottles out to their balls. It would really help if they put a snad/seed box near the landing area, like they do on the tee boxes on the par 3's.
