My question is: why are you guys not playing the same balls all the time? I just don't get it. Some guys have tour balls and stones in their arsenal.

I have 14 dozen ProV1x in stock. Absolutely nothing else.

How are you supposed to get used to the feeling of a ball if you're always switching out?

Just look at the guys on tour. Yes, they're paid to play ProV1s, but some of the guys are playing the 2005 ProV1x and won't change. They do so for a reason...

9 dozen srixon z star xv
5 dozen chrome + (should be here Friday)

I'd buy 10 more dozen xv if I could find them for $20/dozen again.
Thanks to the nike 20xi deal, I have 7 more dozen 20xi-x to add to my stash. I'm hoping they can compare to the xv, I haven't played this version but heard good things.
How long will it take you to play all of these balls?

You ever worry some new technology will come out and leave you stuck with old balls you don't want to play?

As someone who seems to have plenty of experience with them what are the downsides of playing with old balls?

Idk play about 80-90 rounds a year, probably 4 years depending on how I play. Not worried about new technology, I doubt we see a paradigm shift in golf balls anytime soon. Also not going to pay $46/dozen. If something earth shattering is created in the next year or 2 it will be $20/dozen by the time I'm ready to load back up.

Concerning "old balls". I would bet that there are a ton of people on this forum who if they saw Taylor Made LDP Red balls on the shelf at Wal-Mart they would buy them out in a heart beat, and they're 6 years old. A lot of really good golf balls aren't made anymore.

My thoughts exactly, the last 3 years I've only played Srixon XV. If I have to move to a different ball, I'll move on to something as similar as possible.

ROTATION? I don't know any decent players who have a ball "rotation". I have 11-12 dozen Bridgestone B330s that I will play until I run out. Then I'll either restock them or go to another ball and lay in a supply of them. "Rotating" golf balls is going to do absolutely nothing for your game except make it worse.
golf is a recreation for me and many others. I don't believe one ball is going to be the one to get me to shoot in the 70's. Some of is just like trying what's out there

I'm a real ball ho, which I have no control over. January was the longest strech I played one ball (Wilson Staff 50 Elite.) I'd like to say I am going to curb this one day, but then I find myself ordering more.

I have a bunch of balls I don't play, such as a sh!t ton of Top Flite D2 Feels, but this is my list of balls in my current lineup for use and how many.

Wilson Staff Duo - 12
Titleist DT Solo - 9 Yellow
Titleist Test (Velocity) - 2
Top Flite Gamer V2 - 6
Bridgestone e5 - 10
Bridgestone B330-RX - 6 Yellow
Callaway Hex Chrome - 15 yellow, 3 white
Callaway Hex Chrome++ - 36
Callaway Hex Black - 12
Callaway Hex Hot Pro - 7
Callaway Supersoft - 6
Maxflit U/3 - 4
Srixon Z-Star XV - 3
Nike 20XI•S - 2
Taylormade Project (a) - 3 {Have played this the last 2 weeks primarily}
Taylormade RBZ U - 7 {Played this as a second ball when I walk next to the Project(a)}
MG C4 - 12

So currently 155 golf balls on hand that will make regular play. So per 18 holes I lose about 2-3 balls(includes me throwing them in a nearest hazard after a bad hole), so if I don't buy any balls I can play around 50 rounds. Think I can stop buying balls for awhile? I think not!

What do you have in your rotation? I'm not talking the shag bag of found balls.

Just 3 dozen Srixon ZStars in yellow for me. BTW, how do you expect to develop a consistent short game playing all those different balls?

Nevermind as this was already asked.

Egk5,
I have actually only been playing balls that redact similarly for the last few months. Project(a), RBZ U, Chrome models, e5, b330rx and the MG Tour C-4's. All urethane act the same for my short game. I keep the other balls around for when I am having a bad day due to a swing change or whatever. Also of I take some time off I know I will lose a bunch.

That makes some sense but I guarantee you will be more consistent staying with one ball.

I played one ball all of January and my handicap dropped from 20.8 --- 17.3

I have used all those balls i listed since Feb and went from the 17.3 --- 15

But you're right I am not consistent. I am trending down! haha. I know I am a golfing mess

I just got back from a trip to the beach. So I lost my last handful of yellow balls. Now the "inventory" is simplified:

One 2013 ProV1, new (one ball, not one dozen)
One 2013 ProV1x, used (again, one ball)
14-1/2 dozen Taylormade Lethal PRACTICE balls

No idea where that lone ProV1x ball came from. Hanging out in the bottom of my bag for some reason.

I have really grown fond of the '13/'14 Pro V1x so I'm trying to stock up (24 dz and 3 sleeves as of now). I promised myself after the TP Red LDP went the way of the Dodo Bird, if I ever found another ball that I really liked and was comfortable with, I would stack 'em deep.

I'm not comfortable switching golf balls. I need to know how the ball will react on every shot (especially inside of 50 yards) and it takes me a little time to figure it out.
