cast your vote
alright, i've been in this iron search a while. i've hit both and love everything about both of them.....but i'm torn up beause i can't decide on which set to get? i'm asking for fellow golfers of all kind to cast in on their vote and to tell me was sup or what they heard (good or bad) about either set!

i know this is just another of million iron thread and many among the x18 and/or xd...........but this is strictly for me and this time, it's more focused on these two set!

all vote would greatly be appreciated!

thanks for all and holla back! peace!

hermes,

What is your Driver club speed? The TM website recommends the XD only up to 105 mph. I have not hit the XDs but if they are anywhere near the RAC CGB, I would go for them. I do not know anything on the X18s.

R7 XD Specs

i haven't gotten an official test done for swing speed but i beleive it's somewhere at about 100. i beleive they are just a step lower than the cgb and an upgrade from the os/os2!

what do ya think?

why no love for cally? bad experience? of course i'm a tm guy myself but i might want a little change? of course the r7 xd's ahead of the cally's right now in my book but was just wondering!

plus, as one poster has said on here that they would like their bag to match their irons...........i have a kick a** r7 stand bag and would have to drop that if i go with the cally's to get a "ok" design cally bag.........get it, got it, good!

holla!

caveat: I have not hit the r7 xd's

If you can stand the looks, I would go for the Callaways just because they have stood the test of time. I know there are many people that love TM, but with them releasing new stuff to the market all the time, there is bound to be a couple duds in there. Untill a product matures I usually stay away from it. I hit just about all of last years models (from game improvements to players irons) trying to find a perfect iron for me and I ended up buying X-Tours.

With that being said, more than likely you can not go wrong with either set. I would probably look into PING if you haven't already. I am very impressed with the looks of the G5 / I5 series.

TM is highly overrated, I went to a set of the Callaway X-18 pros a few weeks ago, the best decision I have made in a long time considering I do not get to play as much I want to. Give both a shot, but I my vote went to the Callaway Pros.

agree..........althoug i'm a tm dude.......i do agree that they are overrated.........do you think it's in part of their marketing and advertising?

but anyways, going back to the iron discussion, what's your playing ability? why did you go with the cally?

off note question here do they, x18pros, play different from my mizzy 23s?

holla!

though about it..........but looks are part of my selection process also.........somehow they don't look "finish" to me.........they don't have that shiny-chromy look to them like the other iron sets out there!

the demoed alright in my book!

never really been a fan of their products. little things that just dont catch my eye, like the woods with out the furrel(sp?) overly huge think top lines, wide chunky soles. . hahaha i could keep goin, but ill stop there, hahaha. the only set from Cally that i would consider lookin in to are the x-14 pro series, those irons are probably the better looking X series irons.

now, the cally golf balls are good, haha, like the x tour and the 56. i dont buy them, i just play them when i find them, haha

One thing you have to be aware about the R7 XDs are the lower lofts on them. Depending on what wedges you use, you might need one or two additional to fill the gap.

R7XD lofts

3 19˚

4 21˚

5 23˚

6 26˚

7 30˚

8 34˚

9 39˚

PW 44˚

X-18 lofts

#3 21°

#4 23.5°

#5 26°

#6 29°

#7 33°

#8 37°

#9 41°

PW 46°

a 52 and 58 might be alright for the X-18 but I would go with 50 and 56 if you are going with the R7s or even lower. Usually, you want to space them out by 4 degrees but it depends on your skill level and the way you play. You could play 48, 52, 56, 60 for the r7 but that would mean having 5 wedges in the bag if you use a lob wedge. You could also play 50, 54, 58 for the X-18s. Many different combinations.

The R7s were built for distance and high trajectory which would mean that you might hit your R7 7 iron as long as you hit your 6 iron MX-23 or X-18. Thats not a bad thing if you have problems hitting your irons the proper distance but I see potential distance gap problems if you only carry 14 clubs.

awesome.......i needed a set different from the mx23. i beleive the x18pros loft and the mx23's loft are similar so maybe the r7 set is the set to go......nothing wrong with getting help on distance? lower loft + extra distance! kewl!

more technology and extra distance than the os2 but plays differnetly from the mx23.........maybe this is the set for me....i will dwell on this for a couple of weeks before settling down on them!

thanks1
