2014 Greater Gwinnett Championship Photos: Discussion Thread

GolfWRX is live from the Champion Tour's Greater Gwinnett Championship at TPC Sugarloaf in Duluth, Ga. The 7,131-yard, par-72 Greg Norman design also hosted the inaugural Champions Tour event in 2013.

 

This year at the Masters, six players over 50 years old made the cut. Five of them are in the field at the Greater Gwinnett Championship, including Miguel Angel Jiminez (who finished fourth at the Masters), Bernhard Langer (T-8), Fred Couples (T-20), Vijay Singh (T-37) , Sandy Lyle (T-44) and Larry Mize (51st). Of the six, only Vijay Singh will not make the 163-mile drive from Augusta to Duluth for this week's event.

 

Bernhard Langer comes off the top-10 finish at Augusta last week in good form to defend his Greater Gwinnett title, where he won by three strokes in last year's event over Tom Pernice Jr. and Tom Lehman. Miguel Angel Jiminez, currently ranked No. 32 in the Official World Golf Rankings, will make his Champions Tour debut this week.

 

Other notables in the field this week are Ben Crenshaw, Mark O'Meara, Colin Montgomerie, Corey Pavin, Hale Irwin, Kenny Perry and Rocco Mediate.

You can play the course (which is private) for $150 the Monday after the tournament. If I wasn't on vacation that week, I might have played it. Was at the tournament today. A ton of big names there. I hope they get a huge turnout.

Best pics yet. I love how Langer dusts the field with his equipment. A real ball striker. Not knocking Monty, but god those clubs are awful. He could give me 5 a side and he would probably whip me, but man those are some shovels.

Not surprised though - I saw an original set of his from the mid 90's - original Callaways, with the short hosels and fat soles, there was a wear pattern the spot of a quarter on them.

Had the opportunity to play in the Pro-Am yesterday with 3 time major winner Larry Nelson. What a superb Gentleman he was! Really enjoyed watching his classic swing. Here is what he played

Can you just call up the pro shop and arrange a tee time? Any restrictions?

I don't know of any restrictions. Yeah you can probably call the pro shop. I just glanced at the card everyone was given that was talking about Monday play.
