I visited Byron's shop yesterday and put in an order for a new toy.

This one will be a bit different... maybe even a bit special. Needless to say, I'm really excited to see how this project turns out.

Here is a photo of the mockup:

Irons look great. Do they H4's feel/sound any different with the badges removed?
Not sure... they haven't been rebuilt yet. I'll try to post back after I have a chance to hit them.

Dirrrrrrrty! Are you putting the KBS shafts back in?
Yup! KBS Tour in the 69s and Steelfibers in the H4s.

Thanks Tai. Should be rebuilt this week and I have no golf plans for the weekend yet... let me know.

Maybe scratch can join, as well... I have no problems being the short knocker of the group. ;)

The newly refinished irons were built out last night and they look fantastic! Can't wait to get to the range with them tonight.

A few other additions have crept their way into the bag (including the bag):

New, white, 2013 Ping Hoofer (The Titleist Staff Stand bag is getting a bit too heavy towards the end of the round. It looks awesome, so I'm keeping it, but the Hoofer will be the main carry bag from now on)

New set of Stitch headcovers (Gotta match the covers up with the new bag, right?)

The MP-T4 60/05 lob wedge has been replaced with an MP-R12 60/08 (A little more bounce, plus an M grind should make the R12 much more versatile for me than the T4 was... The T4 50 and 56 are firmly in the bag, though)

Wedge shafts have been switched from KBS Tour to KBS Tour Custom White (Because they look cool... No other reason needed)

Last, but not least, SLDR 15* fairway wood with UST Elements Chrome 75 F4, tipped 1.5" (Really looking forward to putting this up against the CB5/Fubuki Tour combo. The CB5 has been very good, and the only fairway wood that I had any desire to try out, so we'll see how it goes)
As always... photos will be posted soon.

Cheers,

Mike

Had a chance to hit them for the first time since the refinish last night.

No change in feel or sound whatsoever.

Let me know if you need a good photographer to take the photos.
Thanks for the offer, but I think I have a guy. ;)

Well... it's official. The SLDR 15* fwy/Elements Chrome 75 F4 is a no-go. Sometimes it only takes one range session to know that you don't get along with a club, and this was one of those times.

Compared to the CB5/Fubuki Tour combo, the only thing better about the SLDR was the head shape and the sound. It's a really nice pear shape and it makes a classic fairway metal sound (a solid "thwack" without that metallic "ping"). I know that this stuff is all personal preference, but I really like that.

Unfortunately, that is where the positives stopped. The CB5 felt like it had a hotter face (much hotter), launched more easily, launched more consistently, flew farther and was more forgiving (slight heel and toe misses are punished much more by the SLDR than by the CB5). Also, the Fubuki Tour shaft felt a lot better to me than the Elements Chrome. Again, subjective, but this is my opinion.

That said, if I were to crank the SLDR down to 13.5*, and only use it off the tee, it would be a GREAT combo. However, I won't carry a fairway wood in my bag that I'm not confident in from the fairway. I don't hit the ball as far as some of you guys do (ahem... scrathswinger... ahem ahem... Pure745...), so I still need the length of a 3 wood off the deck once in a while.

All in all, it was a good experiment and I'm glad that I gave it a shot on something other than an indoor launch monitor. Even though it didn't work out, it's never a bad thing to find out that your next amazing fairway wood is the one that's already in your bag.

Now that the irons are refinished and rebuilt, the wedges are dialed in and the fairways are proven, the bag is pretty much set for the foreseeable future. I'll have a chance to test a Bio Cell + driver on course this weekend. If it's walks all over my Amp Cell Pro (I doubt it will, but you never know), I might pick one up. If not, then the bag is set. The setup is solid right now... very happy with everything.

I got my bag from a local golf course, but stores all over are carrying them now. They should be pretty easy to get your hands on.

Enis. Don't trip.

the + and the Pro are really forgiving. You can hit it all over the face and still be in the short stuff. Hit the ball on the screws and its loooooooooooooong. Still can't beleive I'm bagging cobra, but I can't argue with performance.

OP has been updated with pics of my new Byron: "DaBlade"

I have a couple other changes that need to be made, too. Nothing huge though.

MP-T4 60/05 wedge has been replaced with an MP-R12 60/08.

Wedge shafts have been changed to KBS Tour Custom White Wedge Shafts in Stiff flex.

Amp Cell Pro/KuroKage combo has been replaced with a black Bio Cell Pro/Fubuki Alpha X-Stiff.

Bag has been changed to a white 2013 Ping Hoofer.

Headcovers have been changed to white/black/grey Stitch Golf covers.
Until I have a chance to photograph the rest of the stuff, I hope you enjoy the photos of the new Byron Morgan "DaBlade."

Just in case you are interested, and if you haven't seen it yet, I profiled the build of this putter in this thread.

Just a couple quick updates...

The Fubuki Tour 73 Stiff that was in the CB5 3-Wood has been pulled and replaced with a Fubuki Tour 73 X-Stiff. Not much of a change there, but it is more stable, it has lowered my ball flight and I feel like the club is a bit more reliable now. All in all, it was a worthwhile change.

The Amp Cell Pro/KuroKage combo is back in the bag, for the time being. I'm working with a new instructor and implementing some swing changes at the moment. In turn, my clubhead speed is down. Until these changes are perfected, and I've been able to build my clubhead speed back up, the Bio Cell Pro/Fubuki Alpha combo is just too much club for me. Once that happens, though, the Pro will be back in the bag.

I've had the "new irons itch" for quite some time. That's why I ended up getting the MP-69s refinished. Unfortunately, that didn't suffice... a couple weeks ago, I started a serious search for new irons. That search led me to two options:

2011 TaylorMade TP MBs

Bridgestone J40 CBs
I was seriously torn.

On one hand, I had liked the head shape of the old TP MBs ever since they came out. A friend of mine even had a mint set that I was able to hit recently. They aren't as soft as the Mizunos that I'm used to, but to say that these are "clicky" would be a gross overstatement. The 2011 TP MBs were the first to make the short list, and ended up being one of the final two.

On the other hand, the J40 CBs were always the pretty girl at the end of the bar who I never talked to, or got to know. I'd buy her a drink, from afar, now and then, but there was always something standing in the way when I thought about actually approaching her. Through my research, I found that this girl at the end of the bar worked for a tire company and came from a magical place they call "Endo." She may not have the mid-section of a super model, but she made the curves she had work for her in a wonderful, mesmerizing way. Also, if you slip up and say the wrong thing now and again, she was much quicker to forgive than the super model would ever be.

Still, though... I was torn.

I ended up giving the final decision to my club builder. He said to go with the J40 CBs and forget about the TP MBs. So I did... and they were delivered today. I will be dropping them off on Saturday for "the treatment." This should be a simple build. Pull the Mizuno heads off of the KBS Tours, put the J40 CB heads onto the KBs tours, swingweight match, new ferrules, loft/lie adjustment, done.

I'm looking forward to getting them out to the course on Sunday.

Cheers,

Mike

how do you like the MP-69 in comparison to the MP-68. I currently game the 68's. Also what about the mp-4s
I never hit the 68s, so I couldn't give a comparison. I like the 4s... just not as much as I like the 69s. The 69s are just a bit more forgiving. The difference is minimal, but I can feel it.
