Srixon Z-Star XV review from a former Pro V1X player

I also love the z star XV, but haven't decided if it is better than the pro v1x overall. I agree it does spin less off the tee. Lately, I have been buying one sleeve of pro v1x's and then a sleeve of XV's when those run out. They are each better than the other in certain aspects, but I just can't decide which I like more.

I prefer the XV but only because I love the yellow.

I actually prefer the Pro V1 and XV. Not the ProV1x.

When Titleist releases their yellow ProV1 it will come down to their shade of yellow for me. Its a toss up for me if both balls are white, but with the yellow, its a hands down win for the XV.

I last was a Srixon player with the Z-URC ... then went to Bridgestone B330s after a ball fitting showed less dispersion ... that did not last long! Last year I started with the Penta TP which I really liked...the cover would mark but not cut the way the Pro V1 line does with me ... just picked up some XV to try again and will report back after the weekend!

I'm a recent convert from the ProV1x.............the XV has way less spin off the driver = more distance.....and comparable control with irons and in and around the green.
Tried a sleeve of the XV and found the spin was not enough arou.d the greens for me. The shots I prefer to play need a hair more spin so I went back to the PROV1X. For me, it has the correct spin rates off the driver and wedge.

ya I play the XV yellows too, and they just dont spin anough for me
good off the tee, but I hit some great shots this weekend w "scoring clubs" and it would hit and release 4-8 feet
just not good enough I need that ball to check A LOT sooner than that

but I just LOVE the yellow on the Srixon
the Call chromes are good, but i HATE the yellow - its pure range ball yellow, I like the sheen of the XV's
now that I have been playing yellow all summer, I feel I cant go back to white

maybe ill try the Z star tour yellow's instead?

Yeah, if you are ok with a few yards less on the drive, I think you will be happy with the spin of the ZStar. It spins a lot, imo. I actually should be playing Zstar with my SS of 101 with driver and 83 SS with 6i but I generate a lot of spin and my traj is high. The XV gives me a more predictable spin than the Zstar and not as much.

Regarding green side spin, I played with a great player last week who uses ProV1x. For out round he was using a Z-Star and he mentioned to me that he likes it because it spins less than the ProV1x, which spins too much for him. I'm in the opposite situation, I switched back to the ProV1x because I need the extra short game spin. To each his own.

I actually play the ProV1 and XV. Weird, but I find them to be the closest in my game except the color.

I also loved the urc went back to the prov 1x when the urc went away. Decided to give the XV a go when it came out and went right back to the srixon. I do like the tour yellow not only is it easier to see it also makes playing the wrong ball drastically less likely to happen in my groups of pro v players. Durability is amazing and a huge money saver for me. So much so that I am willing to deal with the loss of spin greenside.

This shows how everyone is different. I couldn't spin the XV at all unless it was a full wedge shot, whereas the V1x grabs on even 30 yard pitches.

 • 1 year later...

I have four dozen brand new Titleist ProV1x still in the box. I am afraid to hit them because I lose them. I lose every one I have ever hit. I have much better luck with XV's. They don't fly off to the side when I hit them. The ProV1x' s are my "Special Operations Balls" if there is water or dense woods, they are in it. And they camo up too! They are impossible to find in the woods to say nothing of the "SEAL Team" ProV1 & V1x water balls.

I have played everything Titleist for 40 years but I like the flight of the Z-STAR XV. My scores are down around par now. I like the straight flight off my Driver, fairways and hybrid. I only play XV's now. The Bridgestone e6 and B330 are about as good. If I find them, I'll play them.

BTW After playing with the same XV,s one e6, and one B330 all summer, guess what? They are still in my bag.

My Titleist balls are like an expensive, errant friends. No matter how much you spend on them, they would rather be somewhere else.

Don't get me wrong, I would not trade my faithful Titleist clubs for anything but when the cost of your golf balls surpasses the cost of your green fees and cart for two.............

For Christmas this year, I am giving my Titleist ProV1's and V1x's to my golf friends. It's the thought that counts, right?

I played the Z-Star XV alongside a Pro V1 recently when I played a round on my own.

I didn't see much difference on shots around the green but I don't hit spinners so that's probably why.

The big difference between the two was on the drives. Even on shots where it felt like I had hit the Pro V1 better, the XV was still 10 or sometimes 15 yards longer.

I've always been a loyal Bridgestone guy. I usually played the E5 or E6 Bridgestones ND recently bought some srixon balls on sale.

Boy are they great balls. I have been playing the yellow E6 balls lately because of the green conditions here in Jersey and it's suppose to be a softer ball, but boy does the Srixon balls play well, and they come in that neat green/yellow color that I usually play the E6s with.

Great balls, great price.

I've been playing the XV since the start of the season, but still find myself reaching for the v1x when I play a round that really matters. XV has been a great, durable ball, but cannot beat out the v1x for me.
+1. I like the XV for casual rounds but I can't put the V1x out of the bag. It's just too good, too consistent, and I've built my game around it. I know what it 's going to do if I do my part . The Z Star XV performs well but on more than one occasion I've flushed an iron or wood, knowing that it was hunting the flag or striped down the middle and long, only to watch it fall out of the sky 10-15 yards short or get up to where it is and be 20 yds behind where I normally am or should be. That's never been a problem with a V1x...

Nice write up, I've played the V1x for years and recently changed to the Bridgestone B330 about two weeks ago, I'm wondering if the Z star would play very similar to the B330 off the driver with the reduced spin but perhaps have more spin around the greens?
Don't know about the driver but I can tell you the new spin skin XV has a ton of spin on chips and pitches around the green. I used the previous XV and I have found the new model much grippier on short shots. I have stockpiled some Chrome + whi h I really like so not looking, but if I was on the lookout the spin skin XV would be on my shortlist. Super all round ball.

The old xv was my gamer.. Loved it.. This new version with spin skin.. Not so much.. The old xv is much better tee to green.. What a shame
Glad to see my old thread still going! I completely agree with the above post. I still have some old XVs that I game, actually a few dozen I bought when the price dropped. My new go to ball has been the B330s which I find to be perfect.

As for the new spin skin balls, maybe its just me but I bought a dozen and still have 11 balls sitting in the package. Not for me.

If you want greenside spin give the chrome+ a go. IMO has a touch more bite around the green, spins less of driver, is longer and veryy durable. About half the price too which is a bonus.

I still have a bunch of the old XVs and play them on and off. I do like them but have never tried the new XVs with spin skin.

What is it about the new XV with spin skin that people do not like?
