I don't get this - wouldn't the ProV1x be the better ball for the vast majority of players if it generates less spin with the driver but more spin with the wedges? Only the most advanced players that shape their drives and generate excessive spin with the wedges would benefit from the opposite, no?
Driver spin is a misunderstood topic ... to say the least. There are many players out there that NEED driver spin to keep the ball in the air. One of my regular playing partners is a good example. He hits a V1 15-25 yards farther than a V1X. There are those folks out there. And there are some players who slide into the ball in such a manner that they don't generate enough spin with their irons to stop a V1X. These guys also prefer the V1. Also, the V1X feels too firm for a lot of folks. As for the V1X generating more spin off the wedges, that's debatable. I can spin the cover off a V1 with a lob wedge. For my use, the V1 generates far too much spin with every club in the bag.

This is sort of like me. I get 5-7 yards more distance with V1x off the driver, but less with longer irons. Spin around the greens and full wedge shots I swear the v1 spins more than the X, even though all these "test reports" say the opposite.

The ProV1x is not a panacea for all players. I played the Pro V1x and Last years Z-Star (which is more like the Prov1) side by side off the tee into a headwind. The V1x ballooned badly. The Z-star launched lower and cut through the wind better. Both shots landed on the left side of the fairway with the Z-star being 15 yards further. I didn't have any standard prov1's with me yesterday but The regular Prov1 and Z-star are very similar in performance. My remaining stock of Prov1x's will get put into play mid summer when the wind around here dies down a bit Maybe then I'll get more benefit out of the ball.

This is EXACTLY what I was referring to in my previous post. I have just the OPPOSITE results. Guys, when it comes to equipment there are no rules that apply to every player.

The ProV1X spins back too much with short irons but the ProV1 is just right? Shouldn't it be the other way around? The ProV1 is the higher spinning ball...
NOPE. He's absolutely correct. "Most" good players find that the V1X spins more around the green and with the shorter irons. Strange ... but proven to be true.
On the rare occassions I have played ProVs I have found this to be the case. IMO the X is the players ball and has more spin for guys who know how to spin a ball, and the regular V1 seems more a highr cappers ball with a softer feel which ill appeal to slow ss players.

LOL ... I don't think that I'd call the V1 a "higher cappers" ball. It works well for higher swing speeds too. I think most of the reasons for choosing one or the other have a lot to do with angle of attack into the ball, driver lofts, desired spin, etc. Neither ball is suited for any specific handicap, IMO.

I agree with this but for whatever reason at least in Oz the regular ProV is used much more by high caps than low. At big open ams I hardly see any regular ProVs but about 75% of the fields use V1x. Usually with low.caps it's only the older guys who use the regular V1s.

Check the Titleist website........

Ricky Fowler, Jason Dufner, Adam Scott, And Bernhard Langer are all playing the ProV1. I wouldn't call any of them "high cappers" or "older Guys". Well, except for Langer. And I'd guess that his driving distances are better than most young studs. Just saying .............

Maybe the dumbest thing I have seen posted. Scott is a high handicap hack with a low SS. Look at the guys playing the Pro V1. It is feel and matches their club specs better.

What is the main differnce between these two ? I heard that i works best for powerful players. I have a ss og 85 with a 6 iron do not know the speed with my driver. How powerful do you need to be to use these balls ? I am thinking of buying lake balls but would like to know which I should buy.

Regular ProV is a 3piece and x 4. Not sure why the regular is so expensive being so outdated. 3 piece are basically second tier balls these days, every other brand has their 3 piece urehane balls as a low budget alternative. X is a nice ball but I wouldn't consider the regular V1 for anything over $30 a dozen.

TP3, Maxfli U3, regular Hex Chrome. All 3 piece urethane, all cheaper than the 4 and 5 piece offerings. Have a look at pro and top flight am events and tell me how many guys hit ProV1 compared tk V1x. Not many.

You just don't GET IT ... do you? Why don't YOU take a look? Go to Titleist's website and see who is playing which ball. Then come back here and tell us all about it.

OR ........................ tell me this: Which "top flight amateur events" have you played in lately? And have you talked to any touring professionals recently? I have, and you're about as far wrong on this topic as you could possibly be.

I play in about a dozen a year, caps ranging from low single to low plus. I honestly don't see any regular proVs but about 80% of the fields use V1xs. At my club every titleist low marker plays the V1x. But I'm obviously imagining things.

I like both , I think the x is better in the wind .. I think the v1 is better on a really hot day … feels more elastic …

I think the X is more durable …

felt the x had more spin on full wedges but on short chips the v1 checks a lot better
