Stock Head Cover or Aftermarket

My local course once told me "the best way to get your clubs stolen is to advertise what's in the bag". Since that day I don't use any manufacture headcovers except on my putter (hard to find something nice that fits putter heads). I am using some sweet old school wool argyle covers that my Mom knit for me years ago (see some manufacturers using the same now). No hiding my irons, but at least someone would have to get close to my bag to see what I was playing.

 

So how about the rest of you, do you proudly advertising what you are carrying, or do you put a personal touch on your clubs?

I have a Amp Cell driver, FW & hybrids. I want to change the headcovers just because they are [u]ugly[/u]. I've never really worried about it, but I have read of a few Scottys being stolen from bags...

Do a search and this was covered several weeks ago. You should never let your clubs out of your sight,
or play where theft is not a problem.

I have a full bag of Iliac covers. Of course, the irony being some of the cover cost as much as the clubs they're hiding. Can't win.

Save them so they are new when I sell the club

The girfriend got into crocheting over the winter, guess what covers my sticks? They actually look pretty darn good, and match my bag. I hang on to the oems in case I sell, like 4pillars said.

Like the OP said, no better way way to get your new sticks stolen then flashing that Titleist 915D cover in the fall.

I get rid of the stock headcovers ASAP, I like the "sleeper" look better anyways

I haven't used a OEM head cover in probably 20 years.

I use both. I have after market head covers for my driver and putter and manufacture head covers on my 3 wood and 3 hybrid.

I had my 7 wood stolen about 13 years ago and I had an after market head cover on it.

I really like the Titleist 913 headcover. My bag is all black, red and white. That being said, I have a set of JUJU headcovers that are still going strong. Love those things. One of the best investments I've made on this site.

My friends make fun of me, but I use my rainhood alot. If I go into the clubhouse for a beer between nines, I use my rainhood to cover my sticks. My friends don't use headcovers on anything so they can go pound sand!

Luckily I play TM woods so my RBZ stage 2 cover is already dated. Don't even get me started on my R11s, it is soooo 2 seasons ago. In all seriousness though, I have those two headcovers and then a us open at merion hybrid cover that my parents got for me when they went to the open.

I like the OEM covers when my clubs are stuffed into the trunk of my Accord as I think they protect better than the knit covers, but i have a couple of rocket-tour pom pom covers to switch to on the course. If for no other reason then they are easies to get on and off

At my home course I feel comfortable enough to use the stock headcovers since theft has never been an issue.

When I play at other courses I often change them out for a nice set of JuJu's I had made last year. They are such great headcovers and I don't want to wear them out, so I use them for travel.

I always gamed a set of Rocket Tour skinny sticks for the longest time. However, I started using the stock Adams ones starting with the "Super" series because I liked how easy they were to get on and off.

I went with Ju Ju's vs stock covers after hearing of a number of club thefts at various courses.

Not sure how you're supposed to "not let your clubs out of your sight" when you have to go inside to pay your green fees.

Some courses I'll leave my clubs in my car go pay then take them out.

I use stock headcovers on all my clubs except my putter. Putter needed something a little flashy.

stock, never had any issues with theft and i'm to cheap to buy other headcovers

i have 5 hybrids so i use the stock black&white headcovers which really look cool and match my current gamer all-black mid-sized staff bag....

...but i am kind of a ho when it comes to covers for my drivers and fairway woods....

i have probably 6 or 7 different sets in various color combos which i feel match my current bags...

..really like the japanspec covers and sumi-G covers nowadays------not too fond of knits as they really don't provide much protection on rainy days...

PS..and i don't use a putter headcover..

I've been using my Ogio Chamber so during rounds I don's use any. In transit I use cheap all black zipper ones for driver/fairway and a Club Glove cover on my hybrid and putter. My Scotty Cameron head cover has never made it to a golf course. I just think its a billboard for thieves. I play a municipal and my buddy dropped his Odessey ProType cover the first round he had it and it has never made its way to the lost and found. I'm also a cop so inherently don't trust people.

Remember when i was first an assistant there was a speight of clubs being nicked so we all started changing to blank covers and since qualified over here the companies arent very forthcoming with kit even if you do well selling their stuff so ive allways used after market covers. Got a some really sound Japanese comocome covers to fit mallet and blade putters, Back 9 USA Driver and fairway cover and an AM&E Walker cup fairway cover. The Back 9 has the vintage feel/look but loads of protection and AM&E is really sound with the same basic design as the limited cameron ones or that many top courses have logoed

Easier said then done.. theft can happen anywhere.

I know a number of private clubs that leave their front gates opened especially on busy weekends. Anybody can easily walk up with the proper attire.

I have other headcovers on my driver, 3 wood and one of my two hybrids.

My reason is simple: Then it doesn't look quite as obvious when I ho a new driver.

Plus none of the OEMs are paying me to advertise their products.

I use the stock Tight Lies cover on my 3 wood (it's well-padded but easy to get on/off), but I've started using Scooby on my driver.

My clubs are too cheap and old to bother about selling them. More likely, if someone were selling good clubs at the price, I would buy them. The only time I replace an original cover with a generic is when the generic is so much better, or the caddy lost mine somewhere in the fairways.
