Anyone Still Play These?
Hi Golfwrx er's

I have played Hogan irons since day one, getting a hand me down set of Hogan Apex forged blades from my Dad. Although I finally broke away from Hogan, during some of their lean years, and began experimenting with other brands, I still can't totally break loose. I recently bought, and had refinished and re-shafted a set of square grooved 1988 Hogan Apex "Redlines". (Rifle 6.0's and Golf Pride Green Victory VG60 grips). They look brand new, as you can see in the photo. I didn't want to hit them, they were so beautiful. How sacrilegious could I be! I finally struck three eight irons...what a feel!!

Is anyone still playing these on a daily basis? Even though I discovered the feel of Mizuno blades years ago, and think they feel better than Hogans, it's hard to keep these in the basement!

Happy Golfing...

I don't think you would see anybody using those anymore, although IMO those were one of the best Apex models ever made. I remember seeing them for the 1st time in 1987 (fall) at a collegiate tourney in New York. I played Apex irons in the mid 80s (not those), but my brother and father used those for a few years from 1988-early 90s as well as a good friend of mine who's a class A pro. Great stix and beautiful. Hold on to those. If you wanna get rid of them, let me know.

I have a set with rifle 6.0 as a back up set. I think they have an amazing feel and are the most accurate iron I have ever owned. The only reason I use my s59 tours is because of the distance difference between the two sets is one and a half clubs, for me that is alot on the longer courses that I sometimes play.

I used a set of them for a while and loved them. Still think they were one of the best sets Hogan ever made and they felt superb. Can't believe i got rid of them. I kept my set of Apex 98s just in case i ever get the urge to go back to the blades

They look absolutely beautiful. I've seen some similar sets in shops that could benefit from some TLC like these and they would rival anything on the market now. As a matter of fact I have a set of original Hogan Edge irons with "3" Apex shafts and they look new also, almost as good as these. I clean them after each round. I've considered getting new irons but cannot justify the cost when the Edge has similar technology as today. I improve yearly and I think it has more to do with me than my clubs. As Trevino once said, It's the indian, not the arrows..."

I'm still using mine. Picked up set early last year. They are an upgrade from a set of forged stainless Hogans from the 60's. Reshafted them with PX 5.5s and absolutely love them. I think it more so the shaft than the heads. They are still in great shape. I just picked up a mint set of 1025CM. I a little too much offset 3-6 than I prefer, but I imagine I won't be playing as much since the our little bundle of joy arrived last week and need something a bit more forgiving.

I still prefer my old Hogans. I would love to reshaft then, but they have pins in the hosel. It's pain the behind to get the shafts out. Enjoy your "new" sticks!

kmrev, i just read this thread all over again. i'll be surfin ebay the next month or so, looking for a set of hogan red lines. those are keepers. Do us all a favor and keep em. they truley are classics. I can still remember the good ol' days working in the bag room in the late 80s, worshiping those bad boys. Love it!!!!! Long live the 80s. All the new stuff is junk , except for the nice mizunos, hogans and titleists imo. thanks for posting.
