One of my regular partners uses his old eye2 sand wedge. I don't know (or care) whether it's an advantage, but he sure does get a LOT more spin than he would otherwise.

If it's an organized tournament, then it's up to the organizers to make clear whether or not they are adopting the Condition of Competition Rule. I still find it strange that people still seem to be implying that old grooves clubs are "nonconforming", when that just is not true. For the vast majority of rounds played, including handicap rounds, there is NOTHING illegal about old groove clubs. They are only illegal for specific events where the rule is adopted. But the default, at least for the next decade, is that old grooves are legal. Yes, it does not conform to the pga tour rules, but if you were on tour you'd have other rules to deal with that you don't follow now (such as the one ball rule). If people don't follow the one ball rule, you aren't playing "tour rules", just like you wouldn't be playing "tour rules" if you play old grooves, but no one seems to care at all about the one ball rule, so why care about the groove rule? Both are specific rules that need to be adopted by events to be enforced. If they are not, they do not apply, plain and simple.

I don't care about others using non-conforming clubs

I still use SM2 wedges and our province pushed back CoC on the groove rule for Mid-Am events a couple of years

I do not want to give up my long putter, but I fear my arsehole pals may force me to for money games. I wish it would just be grandfathered in, I have gotten used to it and I am a better putter with it than a std length

I could not care less about what clubs anyone is playing. One can continue to use a broomstick or belly putter after they become illegal, too. I don't care.

I play in my State senior amateur titles here in Australia (R&A rules) and I inquired at the start of 2014 what their stance was on the groove rule that came into force then.
Their reply was that in the interests of straightforwardness and to avoid confusion they would not be adopting the groove rule for their events.
A good common sense position if you ask me.

I often play tournament golf with a bunch of old men who are still playing the clubs they played 20-30 or more years ago. I feel better playing the same old clubs as they do and am fairly suspicious that more than a few of them reserve their old clubs for times we have a planned get together. Old clubs are more fun when accompanied by other old clubs.
