Can anyone compare these to the Srixon Z Star Forged irons? I'm looking for something a bit more forgiving than the players CBs I have now. Used to love the J33CB's. I'm a little hesitant to go to a club face as either of these appear, but at the price you can get these for now willing to take that chance on either the Z-Stars or the J40's.
Unfortunately I don't have a place I can demo either of these, and haven't found more of a GI iron that I've liked (and/or been willing to pay for) from the "Bigger" manufacturers.
Thanks!
I believe Z-star irons are a two piece design, sort of like Apex or Cleveland 588TT's, where there is a thin face that's welded to a cast or forged body. Bridgestone DPC's are a one piece forging. Just my opinion, but I don't consider these two piece irons to be "forged" in the traditional way most people associate with the term, and you shouldn't expect this type of iron to feel or sound like a one piece forging either. Some of these two piece irons have a spring face to increase distance, but given that, the distance control is not as good. Nice irons regardless, just very different from each other. Oh, and I'd expect the Z-star's to be more forgiving, but only slightly so.
I'm glad I ran across this thread.Im elated with my MP64's and wasn't looking to change my irons....
Well I now have a set if new DPC's coming my way thanks to the fine people who influence me at GOLFWRX ;-)
I'm most interested in the feel comparison with my Zunos, and a lil concerned with mention of a longer blade length on the DPC's vs the MP64's.
In all honesty, the only reason I havn't pursued the DPC's sooner, is the lack of presence in any stores or demo days in Canada. But, I got a great deal, so I'm stoked....

You should be very happy with them. Soft Endo forging, which imo is just as good as any mizuno I have hit. I actually traded my mizzys for a set of J38's because I just wasn't happy with the mizzys. I have never read a bad review of the bridgestones and I have personally hit all of them since the J33. A set of J40 DPC just kicked my J38 DPC out of the bag. Not a big upgrade in performance, but the J40 irons are the best looking out there. Hands down.
I added the J40 18deg hybrid to the bag. It has the stock Project X shaft. What an awesome club. Easy to hit up in the air but no ballooning at all. Face sets up perfectly square. I've been a Ping guy most of my life but now I'm becoming a huge fan of Bridgstone. I wish I had tried their stuff years ago.

The MP-53/64's are going up for sale! The B'Stones offer more forgiveness and a better feel. Ball flight is slightly higher, but not much since I reshafted with C-Tapers.

I hit the J40 DPC's for the first time a few days ago. I was really impressed. I agree with the other posters. It is a great set of irons.
(Fade to Black). They are more forgiving then the AP2's.
I would have to agree. Plus, IMO, they look way better than the AP2s. Something about forgiveness in such a clean package that is appealing. No multi-material badges, designs, etc. to clutter it up. Tell me this doesn't look fantastic...
Yep, absolutely!!
An amazing iron and if I go away from the blades(MP-68s) when I return, these are the irons. I put these up against the Mizzy 54s, and it wasn't close. I prefer the reduced off-set of the DPC's and the turf interaction was cleaner with them, and visually, they're cleaner than the 54's, to my eye.
These are some saweeeeeet irons.

Got my build done last saturday. DG shafts, custom ferrules and I swing weighted them at D3. I dont know what it is about PX and I but we just dont get along. I get the flight and feel Im used to with the Dg shafts. I just like constant weight stepped shafts. Anyway these irons are awesome!
I am curious as well how these compare to similar irons. I want to know how they compare to MP54's. I am also curious as to how that test drive works through Bridgestone. I started a thread about the Bridgestone test drive program but am seeing no help. These irons have peaked my interest.
I currently own both the MP-54s and the J40 DPCs. Both have a great feel and are very good looking. DPC have a larger face but less offset. In fact, the DPC have less offset than J40 CB or MP-4 blades. I think they are very comparable to each other. Just a matter of personal preference on looks and how they setup at address for you.
I love them, but not a fan of the PW shape or size. It's pretty clunky. I ended up replacing it. But other than that, they are amazing irons. Incredibly forgiving, easily workable, and feel great. I'm about to get the chrome stripped and have them refinished in black oxide. I'll take pics of before/after and post it all when it's complete. Should be cool.

I thought I had my bag figured out when I picked up some Ping Anser irons for this season, but then I got some J40 CBs and love them! They have the DG S300 and every shot is dead on, perfect trajectory and distance, and more consistent than I've ever been in my life. I can't even imagine playing with anything else as good... although I did manage to pick up a set of MP68s for dirt cheap and I plan on trying those out next...
The hoe in my made me just pull the trigger on a set of mint used J40 DPC's to compliment my J40 CB's.
Now I need to decide on shafts, as I'm pulling the PX Flighteds.
I want to go lighter so I'm thinking KBS Tour V's or PXi's, can't wait to blueprint & build them, hopefully they go as good as my J40CB build from last year.
How do these compare to JPX 825 Pros in forgiveness and distance?
Forgiveness is such a subjective variable, and as I really don't use that in choosing an iron, I wouldn't feel qualified to answer though from a distance standpoint, the Pros were maybe 3-4 yds further, though as I usually bend my irons +2°, I would say at the end of the day, it would be negligible, though again, you're best served to take em out side by side and hit/play em off of grass amd see which one performs the best for you.
The major difference in the two, for me, is at address, where the DPC's blow the Pros away-
Actually, I like the appearence of the 800 Pros over the 825s, though the 825s are a nice lookng iron, they're just not in the league of a non-badged Player's Cavity.

It's nice to see I'm not the only one who prefers the look of the 800 Pro's over the 825's. The 825's are history, but the 800's are still in my arsenal.
Sorry I was away or awhile. Thanks for the feedback comparing the Srixon's to the DPC's. I'd played J33's before going to Miura's. I'm looking for the J33's forgiveness level - but would take more if it came with great feel! Also wanted to say thanks for the offer to try the clubs out !
I did pick up a set of Z-Star's cheaper than the DPC's. We'll see. They do feel really good, but are HUGE. On the fence with these so far, but I'll give them another week or 2 before maybe taking the plunge on J40 DPC's.
Just ordered a new set of j40 DPC after reading raving review after review of these irons. Did not demo or hit them so took abit of a gamble, but I'm confident it'll pay off as fellow wrx members are very knowledgable with there gear. 4-pw with px6.0 shafts can't wait! /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
I have Miura CB-501's, Mizuno MP-59's and a set of Yonex MB's at home, none of these get any play as the J40 DPC's are firmly in the bag. I played them for a year with PXi 6.0's and loved them then i went for a fitting and ended up ordering the Yonex's with Nippon Modus 3's. I played these for a while but decided to get the J40's built to the exact same specs as the Yonex's and they are simply amazing. I now have all bases covered, when i fancy a challenge i'll take the Yonex's out but for any other occasion the J40's are locked. You will not be disapointed.
The J40's are some of the best looking irons out there. Just picked up a set of J38 DPC on a trade. I need to remember never to venture away from Bstones. Something about them just works well for me.
I swayed away from bridgestone once in the last 7 years needless to say those irons lasted 1 round.
On the topic I scored a mint used set of DPC's last week and pulled the flighted for PXi's all I can say is WOW!!! Much easier on me than my J40cb tour concept s3 combo.
Anybody have any favorable review of the stock PX 6.0 Flighted?
Lot of re-shafts going on here...
I like the stock shaft a lot myself. I had never used PX shafts before this but they are working great on these clubs for me. Easy to control, consistent, and I like the feel. I'm using the 6.5 flighted which I thought might be too stiff but they've been great.
I have played the combo set with the 6.0 and absolutely love them. Three rounds in and I am playing the best iron game ever.
Something about the head and "turf interaction" suits my swing. I thought these would be harder to hit than the Adams CB3 but have been pleasantly surprised.

Im in the same boat. I haven't hit the DPC's or even seen them in person but with all this love on this site I felt compelled to give them a shot (Thanks to Diabolo). My i20s have been pretty good overall but I'm finding the wide sole to be a bit much. I'm hoping the turf interaction will be a lot better with the DPC's since I'm a sweeper. Once I get them I'm going to put my Shimada shafts in them and adjust the lie angle. If they are as legit as everyone says they are I will try them in my 95 recoil prototypes. Either way I can't wait for them to get here. I really want these to be my next iron set for at least the next couple years.
Edit: I meant to add what GW have you guys been playing with the DPCs? Another reason I like my i20s was having a solid GW. I use my gap wedge for full shots only so not having a matching GW is my only concern. I play Sm4 and 5 wedges in 54 and 60. I'm thinking about adding a TVD M 50.
I matched up a set of black rtx cb wedges with mine. 50,54,58. Gapping works out great distnce wise. Love the DPC's. Shafted up with KBS tours. They fit me much better than the g an i series irons. Hit the for yourself. You will be pleasantly surprised.

Played with a Vokey 200 Series 50* between the DPC PW and my 54* wedge last season and liked how that worked. Sort of trying a 200 Series 48* now and dropped both PW and 50*, I'm not sure that I like this arrangement, but it might be an issue of not liking the 48* itself than the actual shots I have to hit with it.
