durability of forged clubs?

what is it guys?
so inspired from another thread about forged clubs rusting and not holding up to other clubs made out of other materials......i have to ask this question. do forged clubs last as long as other clubs made out of other materials?

basically, as you can see from my sig, i have the mizzy mx23 and i would like to know about this set of irons, especially about the forged materials on this iron. anyone with any informaiton about forged on how they rust, how they look as compared to otheres of the same age, etc would be great. and maybe, you can tell me how many times a month do you get out to the range and to the course, that would help me to determine if it's worth having the feel of a forged club look after several years is worth the keep........i would like to keep my irons for 3-4 years and maybe even more..........but i would also like to keep them looking pretty good.....i know that if you have a hard time looking at your ding up clubs, why spend the money correct.........well simply for the love of the game.........but the game is expensive enough for me as it is and i don't want to keep on buying a new set every other year so i have a new set to increase my confidence. i want confidence when i look down at address, i don't want to have any other feelings other than confidence with i'm hitting my clubs. it's just like looking at a car........a really nice car in awesome shape and condition vs a beater with rust, which one would you have confidence in while going on a trip let alone a stroll around town.

holla!

I've really never met anyone who avoided forged clubs because of maintenace issues.... :)

I've played forged clubs for the past few years and have bag chatter marks but, no rusting. Unless you are at a range with a lot of sand or you hit it off a cart path, pitting and rusting shouldn't be too much of an issue. Wipe them off after each session and if you don't like chatter marks, use iron covers.

I have the mp 30s. A few days after I played in the rain I discovered a few spots off rust between the grooves of one or two irons. I probably didn't whipe them dry good enough but the rust came of easy with a brush. So you don't have to worry about rust if you dry your clubs after playing.

I think forged clubs will show little dents sooner and are a little more fragile than cast irons. But to wear out a sweet spot will take a lot of time! I have my clubs 2,5 years and play/practice 2 times a week and the results are tiny scratches on the blade, no signs of serious wear, to wear the sweetspot a little will probably take another 5 year . It depends on the kind of drivingrange as well, if you hit of gras the clubs will wear out twice as fast.

Conclusion: don't buy cast clubs because forged clubs are a little more fragile. The feel will make up for this!

They are a softer metal and therefore are subject to wear quicker than 17-4 stainless. This will be most noted in sandy/desert conditions. The sand cuts through the chrome and acts like a grinding wheel. If you are in the northern parts of the country, your forgings can look like new for years.

Climate and the subsurface of the course you play on will have more effect than what metal your irons are made from.

I find that you just need to TAKE CARE of them. Clean/dry them after usage, and if you can - while you walk, hold on to 'em or put a towel i there to minimize the banging.

This is my Hogan E wedge after about 3 years. It's not trashed by any means, but it is very dinged up. FWIW -I play 18 holes once/twice per week, and practice twice/week.

I love forged irons, and feel this is the "price you must pay" for the wonderful feel. I easily anticipate getting 4-6 years out of them, or more - if you don't practice as much.
