Taylor Made Balls

Last year and this year I played the ProV1's and the older TM TP red.

I really like the old TP red and bought 2 boxes when they went on sale.

There is a thread of one of the members trying out the newer LDP TP red and black. It made me want to try them out. - I am also on a hunt for a mid priced ball so I picked up the Burner balls as well.

THE QUESTION....

TM replaced their TP balls after a year? Are they going to do this every year?

I don't mind if they did this with clubs, you buy a club and play with it for a while. That's regardless of if there is a newer "better", "longer" club out. Don't get me wrong I do hate that TM does this mainly because of resale value.

BUT balls is a different story. If I find the right ball I like - I want to stick with it.

I don't want to keep switching because the ball I like is no longer in the stores.

Makes me hesitate to play TM balls...

What do you guys/gals think? Is this something I should worry about switching to TM balls?

It's standard practice for the manufacturers to update the "Tour" balls every year.

Scott

Do they really update every year? I've only been playing regularly about 2 years and before that never played the premium balls...so I really do not know.

I thought the ProV1 and ProV1x were out at least about two years before they were updated last year?

Before this year Titleist upgraded the Pro V1 and Pro V1x every year for the 2 years before that and most company do upgrade their Tour or premium balls every year and in my opinion the TM balls were garbage and are no where as good as the Pro V1x that i have been playing for 3 years now. But the Pro V1x from 2005 was the best bell they made. Could play one of those for like 6 rounds before it was done.

I misspoke...the Pro V1 balls did not change this year.

But the the Callway HX Tour balls where new in 2007 and now obviously new for 2008. Nike change their One series balls in 2006, 2007, and now 2008. Taylormade changed their TP balls in 2007 and 2008.

As competitive as the ball market is today, manufacturers have to keep updating their "Tour" balls to keep market share and try to catch upo to the Pro V1 line. Titleist, being the top dog, appears comfortable enough to not update every year...

Thanks for the replies.

I understand an update to the ball every year (or two). I'm just thrown off with the TM balls, seems like the new LDP balls is not an update of the older TP red/black. Seems like a completely different lineup....

Anyway, thanks again for the info.

You're correct. The TP Red certainly is a different ball as it is now a four piece ball. TM Black is less changed, but TM would have use believe that the dimple pattern was also changed in both. It is difficult to tell.

Titleist, TaylorMade, Callaway, Srixon, Bridgestone, are on at least a two year product span over the last decade. The Japan based companies have been stretching it out a little further for certain models. What they all have been doing is releasing completely new models, such as Srixon ZUR-C last year, and Callaway HX Hot Bite, Burner TP this year.
