What a stupid web name. p53golf.com isn't available? This guy is supposed to be some business genius?

This company is doomed. The boutique forged blade market it already saturated. Almost zero demand, and no shortage of competition.

Mad much?

Since when is a bad domain name automatically equal failure?

And out of the boutique brands how many can say forged in America?

Seems to me the website fits.

It states on their web site that clients are chosen by private referral and personal interviews only. So I have to interview to buy a set? What questions are they going to ask me? Is their a cheat sheet somewhere?

Where does it say that?

From their website.

Essentially they will do any grinds, stamping etc with the $2k cost. Forget if the price includes shafts and grips....

Haha. yeah, maybe post sounded a bit angry. Not really angry.

I think the website name is dumb because you'd never come guess it. If you see or hear about the clubs, you aren't going to guess that's the website. Forged in America doesn't do much for anyone. Japan has the reputation here, not America. Especially for people willing to blow that kind of cash on clubs.

Good for them for trying. But I wouldn't invest a dime of my money in them, that's for sure.

Finally some realism in the forum! No one here and very few in the US are going to shell out 3 grand for a set of forged "hoganesque" blades that don't have the name Hogan on them. I don't care if they were designed in Hogan's defunct factory using Sam Snead's golf pencil on the back of one of Jimmy Demaret's shirts. This is an absurd product -- a limited edition piece of "memorabilia" that lacks the rights to the person being memorialized.

The only realistic market for these clubs is Japan, where their deep pocketed fanactical golfers have shown a willingness to buy expensive forged sets that US golfers won't touch. If we ever did show such willingness, all the major manufacturers would simple bring over their existing Japan-only forged wedges and irons to these shores. They don't bother because that market segment in the US is very small and the margins are unattractive. So good luck Hogan-not-hogan, your shot is tougher than that one iron at Merion.

It's a good thing they didn't have to ask you for money then.

Seriously now... just because a business plan doesn't make sense, or appeal, to you, doesn't mean that they are doomed for failure.

There is a niche market for this product. From the looks of things, they know that their market is just that... a small niche. That is why they are not busy trying to appeal to the masses.

Just because German cars are the current standard for luxury automobiles in America doesn't mean that there isn't enough room for Cadillac to get a smaller piece of the action.

I'm no CEO, but I'm a buyer if these are available. As long as they stick with the look with minimal stamping. Almost like the Epon Personal 2 irons, which I love.

I remember reading about these irons in 2015, but I had completely forgotten about them...

...until today, when I saw a fresh set out on the course.

First, the irons are quite attractive. The basic muscleback design is pure and customizable, and the in-house finishes I saw were fantastic.

As far as customizability goes, you can specify a desired blade length, top line thickness, toe shape, bounce, grind, stamping, and probably more. Tweak to taste.

The heads I saw were completely blank with lofts stamped on the hosel—clean af all around.

My impression is that the P53s are a more aggressive Scratch blade. Enthusiasts will approve.

Finally, I don't even know if you can even become a customer right now. The venture-backed company is in no rush to profit and truly is all about the product at this point.

Based on stuff like this, it's fair to assume the company has enough runway to get through this development and "closed beta" cycle before making a broader commercial offering.

Ultimately, my impression of the P53s is they're all about the aesthetics. They want to command a premium price for an American forging and an elite design.

Always wondered about these irons. I really liked that they went the iron route instead of wedges. The American forged angle is really cool as well.

Their site hasn't been updated in a couple of years so it's hard to get an idea about the company. The "53" they mention also has to do with Hogan's big year, which I always thought was interesting considering Ben Hogan Golf actually came back after this company launched. Seems like a great bespoke product.

They said I can play better with blades. Should I play blades?

This is WRX....of course you will. You will also gain 20 yards with your driver just for switching as an added bonus.

How much is the deposit?

My understanding is they have custom deals with all current "beta" customers. They are not actively seeking new customers, and you can't just offer to throw cash in their direction and expect to get a response.

As far as I can tell, they are still tweaking the heads and running a bespoke design + feedback loop with their "customers," who could otherwise be described as "rich guys who the founder and his associates know."

I forgot completely about these irons until it showed up in "my content" today. So have guys who paid up front received their irons? I tried just doing a Google search and only found 1 pic and it kinda blurry, and from that 1 pic honestly didn't look all that great. Granted it's 8 irons laid face down on table and a grainy pic. From address is the real pic that matters.

It seems like they went the PXG route before PXG, but just from google searches it seems it just hasn't caught on like PXG. Maybe I'm wrong and a lot is happening offline. I wish someone could post really good pics to see what they look like.

I have PXG XF’s and absolutely love them. It’s a perfect version of the classic G25 irons. I think what intrigues me the most about these P53’s is the ability to almost be able to build your own. I play irons .5-.75” short, it’s been a nightmare getting them to swing weights that I like, D3-4. The pxg’s made that finally an easy task.

These with being able to have them look like a blade but have that nice forgiving thickness and request your desired top line width and blade length? potentially asking them to weigh the heads more to help with the shortened length just sounds awesome.
