Yesterday I alternated between the 1x and the NXT Tour. Hitting an eight iron I generated 8000RPM with the 1x but only 5000RPM with the NXT Tour.. I would have thought there would be a difference of only a few hundred RPM. 1x about 7-8 yards shorter.
[/quote]That is strange you got those results. What did you use for your measuring? I find the NXT to be slightly longer but the spin numbers are relatively close. I also use both balls at certain times.

Presently experimenting myself. Hate paying north of $50/dz. Might be switching next yr. to NXT Tour S or DT Solos. I find they go father and higher for me. The ProV1s are a lower flight and don't 'stick' on the greens for me. Even using a PW. The other 2 come in higher and not a lot of roll out on the greens. Love the NXT S, but still think it is too expensive for a 2 piece ball. But at this point if it performs, might as well use it?!

Generally the NXT tour performs better than the NXT tour s ball. Longer off driver with less spin, more spin off wedge. The s model is softer and that's about it as it's harder for a two piece ball to out perform a three piece one.

Refinished/recycled balls are NOT the same as new balls. While some may be close, others have been fished out of ponds after being there for who knows how long, then cleaned and repainted. There are also significant differences in the different generations of ProV's.

As long as your happy with putting 4$ golf balls in the water and the woods. I'm happy buying them a few months later with fresh paint. Whatever difference there might be in performance I'm sure is minimal at best.

Refinished balls should be avoided in my opinion. First they are used balls (possibly recovered from water hazards). Then they are repainted which can really kill the hi-tech aerodynamics of the dimples. Recycled balls are simply balls typically recovered from water hazards, cleaned and then sold. The problem with recycled balls is you have no idea as to how long they were in the water, freeze/thaw cycles, or contact with chemicals. Numerous tests have been conducted over the years on water balls and they usually show a loss of performance.

Gil…I started a thread with some more detailed data…the differences were alot smaller today…pretty much as you would expect.
