What type of player is this ball designed for? I read an article advising these balls have a new low compression and are good for all abilities and players. My understanding was this ball was designed for low handicap players that produce a high swing/ball speed. The article advised that most golfers require more short game spin from their ball to lower their scores around the greens. I am just concerned that I would lose distance off the tee and irons vs using NXT Tour/E6, etc.

You will lose distant a bit but what you

lose in distance you'll gain on bite with

these balls. If hit properly they can stop

on a dime or spin back a few feet. These are excellent balls.

Can anyone talk about the differences between these balls? If I look at the stats from the Golf magazine tests, they look very, very close in all cases. What makes you pick one over the other?

The X spins less, at least for me. Im talking approach shots here. Personally the X feels ever so slightly harder and for me I see no difference in launch. A Tad straighter with the X, no distance loss for me. I play the X for the lower spin into the greens. I spin the V1 too much on short iron approaches.

Pro V1 spins more than Pro V1X.

 

Players who suck back iron shots on the green may prefer the Pro V1X over the Pro V1.

If a player doesn't put a lot spin his iron and wedge shots much then he may prefer the Pro V1.

 

My guess is that Tour player usage of these balls is about 50/50.

I'm a guy who loves the E6 and has hit some of my longest drives every with them and I've used all types of balls. But I've hit my all time longest drives with a ProV1. I didn't really like the feel of the older model- a little too hard for my taste- but the new modle is perfect. It feels softer than before. The major thing you'll notice is the increase in spin, especially on short pitches vs. most other balls. The Bridgestone B330 series and the Callaway i line of balls are comparable but for my at least, nothing gives me more control of my short game than a ProV1. I believe anyone with a swing speed 85mph or higher would be perfectly able to use it.

 

I still prefer to ball the E6 for overall feel preference and some aspects of it's performance that I really like. It also helps that a E6 isn't nearly as expensive and the cover doesn't chew nearly as fast. Otherwise I'd probably go with the ProV1.
